Changing "Continue reading »" text in Fresh & Clean theme

  1. Here is my site: http://11213.org/
    Im using the Fresh & Clean theme and the "Excerpt" field to get a summery in the slider as well as in the posts

    I have the custom CSS Upgrade - Please let me know which of these if any are possible:

    Here is what I would like with the best options listed first:

    1. Be able to change the "Continue reading »" text for each individual post so for example if its an audio post it would say "Listen" and if it were a video post it would say "Watch" or it can be customized to anything.

    2. Be able to just change it once for the whole site from "Continue reading »" to something else for example "Click Here"

    3. Just remove "Continue reading »"

    Maybe if this wont work with "Excerpts" is it possible to work with "The More Tag" - I wouldn't need to use the excerpt field at all if the summery (using Excerpts or The More Tag) would display hyperlinks or even better WordPress short code - since I post a lot of audio and video - will that ever be possible?

    Thank you

    PS: In general if I have a few questions about CSS should I put them in one post or keep each question to its own post?

    The blog I need help with is 11213.org.

    Since in this case the "Continue reading »" text is generated by the theme directly, there is not a way to change it for home page excerpts in the Fresh & Clean theme on WordPress.com.

  3. 3. Just remove "Continue reading »"

    .entry-content .more-link {
    	display: none;
    }
  4. Maybe if this wont work with "Excerpts" is it possible to work with "The More Tag"

    I checked this and it looks as though the Fresh & Clean theme design simply doesn't display the more tag text on the home page.

  5. I wouldn't need to use the excerpt field at all if the summery (using Excerpts or The More Tag) would display hyperlinks or even better WordPress short code - since I post a lot of audio and video - will that ever be possible?

    Currently, it's not possible. This is because the Fresh & Clean theme was specifically designed to use excerpts instead of content on the home page. I can't say it will never change, but once a theme design is set on WordPress.com we do try to stay true to the original designers intentions as much as we can while still fixing bugs and updating to keep the themes up-to-date with the latest WordPress.com features.

  6. PS: In general if I have a few questions about CSS should I put them in one post or keep each question to its own post?

    Separate posts please, unless the questions are really, really closely related such as, "how do I change the color of titles in posts, pages, and widgets?" or something like that. :)

  7. 3. Just remove "Continue reading »"

    .entry-content .more-link {
    display: none;
    }

    I set this for now and it did as described for the posts in the main page however "Continue reading »" is still showing up in the slider - how can I remove from there as well?

    Thank you

  8. Update to:

    .entry-content .more-link,
    .entry-summary .more-link {
    	display:none;
    }

    I meant in general for other themes as well using Excerpts or The More Tag since I am using an audio player a lot and would rather not make the user click twice to view and then play the audio

    Also Im removing "Continue reading »" since it just doesn't fit with our sites format but in theory I would like to have it say whatever I choose - so being able to remove it and then use a hyperlink at the end of the excerpt with whatever text I want would be nice

    So it was less a question and more a request

    Thank you very much for code and the timely response!

  10. Most themes will display full content, including things like audio players, on the home page. Generally speaking (as in most themes behave this way unless specifically coded to override it), automatically generated excerpts will display plain text only while manually created excerpts will display some HTML.

    The more tag (on most themes) will allow you to display any content in the teaser.

    Not sure if it makes a difference to you in this case, but do keep in mind that not all users enter a site via the home page.

    The more tag usually offers just such an option. Fresh & Clean does it's own thing. Each theme is unique. :)

    Cheers.

  11. Thanks a lot

  12. All the best!
