Changing or starting new blog domain name using Scottish Gaelic word with grav

  1. I want to change my domain name (or start a new blog) using a Scottish Gaelic word, snath that should have a grav punctuation mark over the letter a. The name entry box won't let me do that. Is there any way around this?

The blog I need help with is islandhandspunyarns.wordpress.com.

  2. I don't think the domain name can use that sort of punctuation, at the bottom of this support document it says that Internationalised Domain Names that contain other characters than the 26 English ones, aren't supported: http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/#internationalized-domain-names-idns

But you should be able to put one into the site's title, Settings -> General, just enter it in how you normally would, or if that doesn't work, copy and paste it.

  3. @susanwriting: Per the link @danilesreading provided:

Your domain name is an IDN if it contains language-specific characters such as ä, û, ע, ж, 字, मा.

Domain mapping for IDNs, also known as Internationalized Domain Names, is not currently supported.

I hope that clarifies things. Let me know if you have any questions.
