Changing private to public

  1. Hey guys,

I am currently making a journalism portfolio as I am graduating soon. I have a small problem as my blog is private and nobody can access it. I'm not sure why it is private because I have ticked "allow search engines to index this site" under site visibility. Does anyone know why it is still private?

    Thanks for your help,
    Tom

The blog I need help with is tomdavisjournalism.wordpress.com.

  2. Your site is not private anymore.

  3. It still comes up as private when I type it in as a URL, is this a different setting?

  4. I think you have a browser issue. Do the Cookie Dance and try again; http://raincoastermedia.com/2012/05/01/the-cookie-dance/

  5. Sorry if I'm being a pain, I'm pretty useless when it comes to computers. I tried your suggestion and it still says that the 'blog is marked private by its owner'. It also says this on my friends laptop. Is there any other settings I could have wrong? thanks, I really appreciate the help.

  6. It doesn't say that on mine. Try it on a computer or phone that has never gone to your site.

  7. It says the same thing on my phone
"http://tomdavisjournalist.wordpress.com/ is marked private by its owner. If you were invited to view this site, please log in below. Read more about privacy settings."

  8. Does anyone have any other ideas?

  9. Given that http://tomdavisjournalism.wordpress.com/ is clearly public, no.

  10. Never mind, I'm just an idiot, was putting the URL in without the http. Thanks for your help.

  11. You're welcome. PS: we ALL do something like that, then complain about it. It's how we learn humility, and that's the web's best lesson.
