Chatroll no longer shows up on site

  1. I added chatroll to my blog about a month ago. It was working fine yesterday, but today it is no longer embedded in the chat.
When I went to my chatroll settings to try to input the code again, this is what it gave me:

    CK Gems & Codes - Join Now! <span style="font-size:0.9em;">(LIVE WordPress Chat)</span>

I don't remember the code looking like that... When I put it on my sidebar as a widget, it just shows up as a link. I think this is more of a chatroll issue, but I'm trying both sites to figure out the problem.

Maybe can someone suggest an alternate client for a chatroom box on the site.
    Thanks for your help.

The blog I need help with is skyelogic.wordpress.com.

  2. We can't help without a link to your blog, starting with http.

  3. Yes, I've got the same problem..I've had chatroll in for a very long time and this is the first time it doesn't show up on my blog...

the blog is linked in my name

  4. When I had chatroll on my blog, I remember it having iframes.

The code it gives me now is different, however, when on the settings page for chatroll I can still find the old html code, just under "Universal/Custom" install.

this is what it looks like:

    <iframe width="450" height="350" frameborder="0" scrolling="no" marginheight="0" marginwidth="0" allowtransparency="true" src="http://chatroll.com/embed/chat/mmo-games?id=u4ooohkNQiX&platform=html&w=$0"></iframe>
    <div style="font-size:0.9em;text-align:center;">Live Chat Software</div>

    Hope this helps.

  5. Thanks, it sounds like Chatroll has changed something on their end. Can you paste the actual code from your widget here, between backlinks? Those are the little tickmarks usually on the same key as the ~. So backtick, all the code, backtick. That makes it show up so we can analyze it.

  6. <a target="_blank" href="http://chatroll.com/embed/chat/mmo-games?id=u4ooohkNQiX&platform=wordpress-com">CK Gems & Codes - Join Now!</a> <span style="font-size:0.9em;">(LIVE <a href="http://chatroll.com/solutions/wordpress-chat-plugin">WordPress Chat</a>)</span>

Hope that shows up. That's the code. And yep, it sounds like chatroll changed something. Don't know why though.

  7. Even though chatroll seems to have changed the code it gives out to install the chat, it has the other html code I posted above.

I would use meebo, but I prefer to use a chat client that lets all the website views chat together... Not just to me.

  8. Lunalocket: I know this doesn't help, but I too have had the same issue. Had chatroll up for months but it just stopped working a couple of days ago. Haven't figured out how to fix it yet, but will pop off a note here if I do.

  9. Here is the code raincoaster -- but like Lunalocket -- this coding doesn't look like what I originally put in:

    <div style="font-size:.9em;text-align:center;">WordPress Chat</div>

  10. Thanks David.

I know WordPress doesn't allow iframes but chatroll has seemed to be an exception with that up until know. I wonder if this is will change soon! I've tried other chat clients, but only one works http://www.xat.com. I wouldn't recommend it though.

  11. No, please post it between backticks. I can't tell if that's all of it or not the way it's posted there.

  12. I've got the same problem since yesterday afternoon and my code was

    '<iframe width='270' height='310' frameborder='0' scrolling='no' marginheight='0' marginwidth='0' src='http://chatroll.com/crows-manga-scans/embed?fgcolor=bdbdbd&bgcolor=ffffff&textbgcolor=111111&textfgcolor=FFFFFF&sound=0&border=0&w=$0'></iframe>
    <div style='width:270px;text-align:center;'>Crows Manga Scans - Fullscreen</div>'

the new one seems to be

    'My Chatroll - Join Now! <span style="font-size:.9em;">(LIVE WordPress Chat)</span>'

  13. This is more likely to be a WordPress issue isn't it? I cannot see how chatroll could be changing the code in your blog.

In my own case I had chatroll embedded in a page. Yes - even though it uses iframe. Provided I did not edit the page in visual mode I was OK. (In visual mode the editor strips out the iframe).

Now, when I display the page, the chatbox does not appear. If I look at the page source, the code has been completely stripped out - presumably be WordPress.

  14. Well if it's a wp issue, let's wait and see how they going to fix it.

  15. Those are apostrophe's, not backticks.

It looks like this was something staff were perhaps testing and then decided to strip out instead, as with the rest of the iframes. Just speculation on my part, though.

  16. mmm I have the same problem.
I am new to wordpress and I like it but the restrictions about usual chatboxs are really annoying.

  17. iframes are not supported at wordpress.COM due to security concerns.

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/code/

If someone had it working here on a wordpress.COM blog before, then it was a fluke that it worked.

Javascript and flash are not allowed for the same reason.

  18. Which means : The embed chatroll should not have worked in the first place ?
And what about chatroll HTML code ? Got to find a new, free and reliable chatbox now ~
    Thx for your answer thesacredpath.

  19. That's correct: it should not have worked in the first place. The only chat I know of that works is Meebo,

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/meebo-widget/

  20. i have the same problem. Meebo is not the solution because you can only chat with the admin of the site, but the visitor can't talk to each other...

  21. I became aware if 4 chatboxes and posted about them here > http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2010/03/07/4-chatboxes-for-wordpress-com-blogs/

  22. breaking news! ive got an email from Chatroll Contact that they are currently working with WordPress.com to approve a shortcode.

  23. @4yardsmusic
Yay! I'm so glad to hear that. :)

  24. @yardsmusic

Really !? Thx a lot for this precious information, I was so disappointed with the meebo chat this morning ( yeah I was giving it a try ).. anyway, very glad to hear this too, for me and the whole community.

  25. Hello, all.

For a short amount of time, users were able to use ChatRoll and other services that use iframes to insert their content on WordPress.com. This was the result of a bug and was unintended.

We have since patched the bug and have filtered out these iframes from all WordPress.com sites. We apologize for the confusion, but ChatRoll and other iframe-based embeds will not be returning to WordPress.com at this time.

As always, we will continue to monitor requests for additional features and shortcodes on WordPress.com.

    Thank you for your understanding.

  26. Hi all,

This is Jonathan from Chatroll. We're continuing to work with WordPress.com with the goal of bringing Chatroll back as an officially supported [chatroll] WordPress.com shortcode.

We will send out updates as we hear them. In the meantime, you can continue using your Chatroll(s) via standard links. Simply go to your Chatroll's Settings -> Install tab, select WordPress.com, and copy and paste the link code into your posts and/or widgets.

As always, we truly appreciate your amazing support!

    Kind regards,
    Jonathan
    Co-Founder
    Chatroll.com

  27. Good to hear, thank a lot for your hard work.

  28. Jonathan, we don't really have any interest in supporting Chatroll as a widget in the short-term.

  29. Matt:

Thanks for your response. Please keep our outstanding track record in mind when considering Chatroll for future inclusion. We'll be happy to work with the WordPress.com team to make it a great experience for WordPress.com users.

To existing Chatroll / WordPress.com users:

Your options for using Chatroll with WordPress are now as follows:

    (1) You may continue using your Chatroll(s) on WordPress.com via a standard HTML link. We've updated the Chatroll website with new instructions.

    (2) We continue to support fully-embedded mode on self-hosted WordPress blogs:
    http://wordpress.org/

    Kind regards,
    Jonathan
