Checking if a deactivated address was ever used...

Hi there, I was wondering if there was a way to find out if a deactivated address was ever genuinely used? I am interested in transferring the company's other blog (eyeonrichmond.blogspot.com) to WordPress and would like to use a similar address - I was looking to use: eyeonrichmond.wordpress.com.

However, I found that the address has been already used and deactivated - is there a way to find out who may have used it so that I could ask their permission to have it transferred to me, or to find out if the address was ever legitimately used as opposed to it being registered and deactivated by a dummy-user? I tried using the WayBack Machine to find something, but there's no archive of a blog having ever existed under that address...

The blog I need help with is crusadertravel.wordpress.com.

  2. Once a site is deleted by its owner, it cannot be reactivated and the address remains unavailable even to the original owner. Here's the full answer: http://en.support.wordpress.com/recycling-blog-names/

You'll have to pick another or go for a custom domain name. Then it doesn't matter what the underlying WPcom address is. http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/

Thank you for your reply, justjennifer, but that doesn't really answer my question...I know the policy WordPress has in place for deactivated addresses, but I wanted to know if they had a way of knowing if an address was ever legitimately used at all, or just registered and deactivated?

Since the address in question that I'm looking to use appears to have had no history of activity associated with it, and I don't know who could have registered it since there's no way to track them down so that I can ask...what then is my option? I don't want to register a new address unless I absolutely have to...

  4. You can't use the old address that was deleted - ever - your only option is to register a new address

  5. @crusadertravel - It may not be the answer you want to hear, but it does answer the question and the answer is simple. Deleted means deleted, never to be used again.

what then is my option? I don't want to register a new address unless I absolutely have to

Whether registering a custom domain or new WPcom address, that is the only option you have.
