child page still showing on main page

  1. Hello, I'm rather new to WordPress, but I've run into some trouble already!

I plan on hosting a ton of tutorials for programming, so obviously I'll be writing quite a few pages, and I'd like to hide those pages on the main page so it's not all clunky.

I understand how to make pages child pages, and I found this article:
    http://faq.wordpress.com/2007/07/01/i-have-too-many-pages-at-the-top-of-my-blog/

telling me that I have to use the page widget in order for people to find my page, and I also found this article:
    http://faq.wordpress.com/2007/02/20/i-have-too-many-pages-in-my-header/

telling me that if I use the page widget, it will still show the child pages.

I've tried both ways, searched and searched the forums and FAQ, and it still shows my child pages on my main pages regardless of my efforts.

Any help would be awesome! And here's my page:
