child theme, fear of losing CSS edits

  1. Hi,

I read that I need to upload a child theme of twenty ten in order not to lose my CSS edits I've made to my site when an upgrade of that theme happens. I've got my zipped file of my re-named child theme ready, but I can't find the 'install theme' tab that people keep showing in youtube videos. It looks like it's gone and now you 'install' themes. How can I get this child theme in? Is it true I will lose my changes if I don't do this?

  2. I'm sorry, but themes can't be uploaded to WordPress.com. That's a feature of self-hosted blogs through WordPress.org.

On WordPress.com, your CSS changes are kept completely separate from your theme, so you don't have to worry about losing them.
