hello,
I tried to add the Clustrmap widget to my blog (scilibrarian.wordpress.com), it would show up on the sidebar, but it would also wipe out ALL the side bar stuff that I have there now: most recent post, calendar, blog rolls, etc.
Does anybody have the same problem?

That is very unusual, but we are happy to help: in general, if you follow the instructions here

you can add your custom HTML to a 'Text widget' (which allows HTML), and if you choose the simplest option [B] it should work fine - in any event, there should be no side effect on any other sidebar content anyway!

NOTE ALSO:: you can choose much nicer map styles on the Admin page (see 'Map styles' tab on the right). All users are eligible, although ClustrMaps+ users have a larger range of shadings, dot colours, labels and languages ... see some representative examples here:
If adding the Clustrmap was the first time you added any widgets, that will always wipe out the default set of widgets. Now that you've messed around with the sidebar, you should be able to just add it back in.
