Conducting business on WordPress.com

  1. Does WordPress.com permit the conducting of business through a WordPress.com web site...for instance, collecting event registration fees, enrolling students in online learning programs, receiving donations, etc. Does WordPress.com permit linking to third-party payment gateways from a site's pages? Does WordPress.com support any third-party payment service providers?

  2. This is something that staff will have to answer, but in general the stuff you would need to be able to do this (paypal buttons, etc.) is not supported here due to code restrictions for security reasons. The only paypal button that will work here is the plain, non-encrypted, donate button.

I'll tag this for staff attention so that they can respond. Hopefully they will be around soon to reply.

Only if the event and online learning programs are your own. You can collect donations through PayPal: http://en.support.wordpress.com/paypal/

Does WordPress.com permit linking to third-party payment gateways from a site's pages?

Yes, but only if you are selling your own merchandise, tickets to your own event, registrations for your own classes, etc.

Does WordPress.com support any third-party payment service providers?

    No, we do not.

  4. Given that this is possibly going to require some hoop-jumping to try to do here (assuming you fit within what @macmanx said above) you would probably be best to self-host your own wordpress.ORG installation on a third-party hosting service such as godaddy, bluehost, etc. That would give you a lot of flexibility and options that aren't available here.

  5. I use WordPress for this sort of thing, and all I do is link to Eventbrite for the ticket purchase. I'd love to use the embed code, but it's not Whitelisted, so I just link.

  6. Thanks to each of you for taking time to respond to my inquiry. The information you provided is very helpful and gratefully received.

  7. You're welcome!
