Confusion re WP.org & WP.com & self-hosted

    I have bought my own domain for my small business website – http://yourseachangelife.com – and created a directory for it at my Webhost account, and uploaded the theme & a couple of plug-ins.

    I've entered the WP DNS at my webhost account.

    I've been using the wordpress.com Dashboard to create & edit content, as that's easier for me than editing HTML files.

    I had assumed that wp.COM + self-hosting = the most flexibility, but now I find I can't use plugins and it seems I can't do ecommerce.

    Should I have used wp.ORG and is it too late to change now I have content?

    I have paid for the WP's mapping to my domain.

    I think I'm really confused... I guess I'm wondering if I'm really self-hosted?

    Also wondering if I can be self-hosted and still use the WP Dashboard for content creation.

    I have read WP documentation, but maybe I've not understood what it mean.

    I am afraid I can't follow what you're saying. WordPress.com + self hosting does not exist. You either self host using software from WordPress.org OR you are hosted at WordPress.com.

    At Wp.com we have no plugins and no ecommerce. But that's okay, because you have both kinds of blogs.

    Right now your domain is pointing to a WordPress.com blog. But you said "created a directory for it at my Webhost account, and uploaded the theme & a couple of plug-ins" which means you have a Wp.org blog somewhere, at your web host. You're just thinking you're on the one site when you're actually on the other. I recommend you change the DNS settings back to point to your self hosted site and just carry on with that.

    yes, i have been/am v confused :-)

    15 mins earlier than when i'm typing now,, i:

  4. exported my content at the wp-admin panel
    removed the earlier installation of wp that i'd done at my webhost account
    replaced it with an installation from wp.com
    deleted the DNS wp sent me
    re-entered the DNS from my webhost

    5. do i need to wait for the DNS to re-propagate before logging-in to the admin panel and importing my content? (when i tried logging-in just now, it shows the .com as is, which makes me think the .org hasn't happened yet)

    If you mean you're using the post editor here on WordPress.com to create the content so that you can grab the HTML code and paste it into the HTML editor on a WordPress.org self-hosted blog, then almost certainly yes. However, as Raincoaster says, you can't do any of the other here!
