Contempt Theme: change home link

  1. I'd like to make two additional customizations to my blog (http://tobaccofreeaz.wordpress.com):

    1) Change the url assigned to the header graphic (in my case it's the Tobacco Free Arizona blog graphic at the top of the page)

    2) Remove the page bar altogether, including the existing 'Home' link, so the content section butts right up against the header.

    Are these changes possible? Thanks in advance for your help!

    The blog I need help with is tobaccofreeaz.wordpress.com.

  2. Both can be done, but you will need to have CSS editing experience and the paid CSS upgrade to do it.

  3. I have both css editing experience and a paid css upgrade on this account. Having scoured through the style sheet that came with the Contempt theme, I have not found any available elements and attributes that drive the home link behavior or the placement/removal of the page bar.

    Still need help on this one...thanks.

  4. #pagebar {
    display: none;
    }

    Changing the URL linked to the header image, since it is defined in the underlying theme files, is a lot more difficult and will likely require using a text widget and then sizing and positioning that over the header image with a transparent gif or png file linked to the other site, and devblog is probably the only one with enough experience to do that. I had a couple ideas, but can't get them to work.

  5. Thanks, I really appreciate the help. Success on the pagebar removal; I had deleted all of the pagebar css in previous attempts and had neglected to leave an ID with the 'none' attribute.

    Re: the URL change, I'm assuming 'devblog' is member of the forum?

    Thanks again!

  6. Yeah, hopefully he will see this thread. I'll drop him an email.

    That's exactly how I would do it. Try this:

    Create a text widget with this:

    <div id="nTitle">
    <a href="URL-YOU-WANT-TO-LINK-TO" title="YOUR TITLE"><span>YOUR TITLE</span></a>
    </div>

    Then, in your CSS, add/modify the following selectors and their properties as necessary:

    #page {
    position:relative;
    }

    #headerimg {
    position:relative;
    z-index:0;
    margin:0;
    padding:0;
    }

    #nTitle {
    display:block;
    height:140px;
    left:-10px;
    position:absolute;
    overflow:hidden;
    top:-10px;
    width:750px;
    z-index:100;
    padding:0;
    }

    #nTitle a {
    display:block;
    height:140px;
    width:750px;
    position:relative;
    z-index:100;
    margin:0;
    padding:0;
    }

    #nTitle span {
    margin-left:-9999px;
    }

    HTH

  8. Hopefully you can help us out on the Sandbox problem in the other thread. Thanks!
