I want to publish documents from MS Word but although the formatting is good prior to publishing and when it has been published in edit when viewed the formatting has multiple blank lines between each line of text. What am I doing wrong?

Well yeah, that will happen.
Don't use Word, which is not a blog builder. Use windows live writer, which is free and also WORKS.
