Crazed spammer named "lista de email"

    I can't be the only one with this problem. Askimet catches all this freak's comments, but I'm getting at least 50 a day from this guy, and this has been going on for at least a month. Each of his comments has a different IP number and email address (but it's always something at hotmail). He comments to several different posts. Thinking that I may have let one of his comments in by accident, I searched back as far as February looking at all comments with hotmail addresses, but none of those were spam.

    I doubt that this freak has singled me out, so I assume he's bombarding many blogs. I think staff have a way of blocking comments even before they arrive in our Askimet filters. If anyone deserves such treatment it's "lista de email". But if there's nothing to be done about it, I'll just continue to rely on Askimet.

    If Akismet is grabbing all the spam, what's the problem? Akismet IS the system for preventing spam from appearing on your blog, and it's working fine.

    Akismet is catching this spam on my blog and yours. I just click the "empty spam" link several times a day and it's gone.

    I can live with it, raincoaster. But I thought staff had a way to pre-block excessively obnoxious spammers. If not, no problem. That's how it goes on the internet.

    timethief, I spoke with you yesterday about having problems with my site. You said you would flag it for them to take a look. they told me to leave the spam in so they could see it. I am also getting the lista de email, my subscribers are being caught in the spam (which seems to have dropped significantly lately ) and so are my replies.
    I just noticed today that in the dashboard under blogs I follow....it is empty...
    it says no followers. .

    I still think it might have something to do with the change of my email. I thought I had followed all the steps to ensure it would be enabled correctly.
    (I looked for my "topic" to continue writing in there but couldn't find it....

    I am also plagued by lista de email spam, also w different URLs. Sure I can--and do--delete my spam list but it's becoming a full-time job. Do something!

    I concur with lynnbiederstadt -- can't WordPress block these idiots?

    Both my husband's blog (ubriaco.wordpress.com) and mine (dianescookbooks.wordpress.com) are PLAGUED by them!

    It's takes only seconds to click "empty spam" and the amount of spam we deal with here is "peanuts" compared to what we deal with on self hosted blogs.

    I didn't even know I was supposed to delete my spam list--I thought Askimet did that automatically after a certain point!

    I just had a weird surge of spam sneak through the askimet filter and land on my blog, all from the same spammer. I marked it as spam.

    My question is: Will Askimet now recognize this spammer and filter out his comments? and 2, aside from recognizing his email address, will askimet also recognize any comment with a link to his vile site, and filter out any such comment? Or should I go and block that site-name?

    That's correct. Your don't need to click "empty spam" if you don't want to. Akismet will maintain comments it has caught for 15 days from the time they were received, and then it will delete the comment automatically.

    It takes time and repeated marking of spam for Akismet to recognize what slips by and learn that it's spam.

    Thanks for all the comments, but it appears that there's nothing to be done about spam from "lista de email" except to let Askimet do what it's already doing. So I'm going to mark this thread "resolved."

    I have an annoying spammer named "Successful Sophie". I've received more than 80 spam comments today (my average is about four). Every time, her IP address is different and the email address is always @goodresultsduke.com. Her website is "threegenerations.com". SHE'S DRIVING ME ABSOLUTELY INSANE! All she writes is "Hey please do the morally right thing and use your site to spread the truth about 9/11" and I'm so irritated by it. HELP!

    Just out of curiosity, can anybody enlighten me as to what these "lista de email" people WANT? Their comments aren't blatant sales pitches, as most spams are, and I can't imagine why they put up their pointless little remarks.

    Just as an update, Successful Sophie gave me 260 more comments last night.

    They want you to click the links. They get paid by the click.

    No one can drive you crazy unless you play their game and that's what you do when you post that information into forum threads. You are in essence assisting the spammer by posting their spam here. These threads are indexed by Google and available to everyone on the internet. Please just get on with your blogging.

    The vast and overwhelming majority of all so-called information on the internet is spam. Over 80% of all comments submitted to .wordpress.com blogs every day are spam.

    If Akismet has sequestered these spam comments simply click "empty spam" button. If you get spam that slips by Akismet then mark it as spam (do not delete it) and over time Akismet will learn it's spam.

    On the spam that Akismet catches it takes only seconds to click "empty spam" and you don't even have to click "empty spam" if you don't want to. Akismet will maintain comments it has caught for 15 days from the time they were received, and then it will delete the comment automatically.
