Hello,
Maybe someone can help me with a small technical question. I created a blog with the simplest presentation ("Kubrick"), but what I would really like to add is a small list of just the (clickable) titles of the latest 6 or 8 posts on the top right side of the opening page. Is this possible, or do I need to choose another 'theme'?

Could you please post the url for your blog so we can see it?
If you have a wordpress.com blog then you have a Recent Posts widget you can place in your sidebar. It and all widgets are found here -> Presenatation -> Widgets
Drag the widgets you want including "Recent Posts" out of the Available widgets box and drop them into the Sidebar box. Click the blue and white icon on the Recent Posts widget and it will open - set the number of titles you want to display. Click the X on the top right hand corner of the widget to close it. Then click "Save Changes" and view your blog.
P.S. I found your blog (I think) http://davidoffski.wordpress.com/ and I cannot see the Recent Posts widget in your sidebar so I'm pretty sure that when you place it there following the instructions I provided above that your problem will be solved.
