Created blog, want to delete but keep name free

  1. I've made an epic fail and, when trying to change the name of my current blog (pgrschoolofeducation.wordpress.com), I stupidly went ahead and created a new blog under the new name (manchesterinstituteofeducation.wordpress.com).

Is it possible to delete the new blog and use the new name to re-name my old blog? At the moment, I can't since technically there's a blog using the name I need.

The blog I need help with is manchesterinstituteofeducation.wordpress.com.

  2. This blog still exists http://pgrschoolofeducation.wordpress.com/

This one http://manchesterinstituteofeducation.wordpress.com/ can be made private and used as a backup blog and for testing or deleted. Note that if you delete it deleted deleted blog URLs are not recycled, regardless of who registered and deleted them and no exceptions are made.

See option 3 here to change your blog visibility setting to private > http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/privacy-settings/
    Dashboard > Settings> Reading

  3. The Site title and site URL do not have to be the same. The Site title and the Tagline can be changed on the top of this page at any time. > Settings > General
    "save changes"

  4. Ah, I thought as much! My own fault for not reading the small print too closely. I may just bite the bullet and transfer everything over OR start a new blog (depending on what management want). They want the site URL and title the same. Ok, many thanks.

  5. You're welcome.
