Creating a table

A few months ago I put a table in one of my pages just by cutting and pasting the table from MS Word. It was working fine and holding true to its size and shape, wrapping the table text, and then this morning I opened up the Dashboard and discovered it had, for some reason, extended itself off the page. I'm sure there were size and width specifications in the code before, but they are gone now. I tried to enter new width specifications in the html code, but it wouldn't take. (Just disappears when I click away from the page.) Any suggestions?

The blog I need help with is culturalcivilian.wordpress.com.

  2. Link or point to the page in question please.

I am looking for how to put a table on my page and I just do not trust Word or Works. I have seen codes and plug in like Easy Table (http://www.wpbeginner.com/plugins/create-manage-tables-wordpress-posts/) but I am still trying to figure out how to install in. Sorry, I can't help more! Tables are so useful wordpress should just have them on the toolbar, because I really stink at codes.

    Hi there,

There is no FTP access to free hosted WordPress.COM blogs and we cannot install plugins. Those found on the internet are for WordPress.ORG installs which run on different software.

There is no upgrade that you can purchase from WordPress.com that provides FTP access and the ability to install plugins in a free hosted WordPress.com blog. See > http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

Please answer justpi because if you want an HTML table code he most certainly can provide it.

The table is not on the page anymore; I took it off because it didn't look how I wanted it.

Also, I'm not unfamiliar with HTML code, the problem is that anything I enter in the Text box just disappears when I navigate away from it, presumably because those changes are not supported by WordPress.com.

What I mostly wondered is if something had changed at WordPress, because, like I said above, the table was fine for a month before it suddenly went out of wack.

As themes are upgraded to HTML 5 and CSS 3 there will be issues like this arising. If you still have the table code you were using then post it here between backticks and justpi will assist you with it. The backtick ` not to be confused with the single quote mark ' is located to the left of the number 1 key in lower case under the tilde ~ on your keyboard.

If you no longer have the code then specify how many rows and cells you need please.

P.S. I just recalled something else.

See this answer from WordPress staff:

    Hi all,

A change that we made last week is causing the Visual Editor to strip out attributes on table tags.

To work around this for now, you will need to use the Text editor on any posts where you have tables. If you switch back to the Visual Editor before saving changes on those posts, the attributes will be deleted, so please make sure you save your changes if you switch back to using the Visual Editor.

The developers do know about this, and we'll keep you all up to date once we know anything further. http://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/html-tags-changed-from-visual-to-text?replies=7#post-1040004
