creating menu/pages

  1. i am having difficulty with creating pages under menu. i have trued to follow your support doc, but i cannot create it.

The blog I need help with is thezphilosophy.wordpress.com.

  2. I wonder if this is a theme issue because I don't see any pages listed on your blog, is there a place in the Widget area for you to display the pages and then maybe the ones you are creating will show.

  3. I have not created any pages, as I am not able to. The widget section doesn't let me do it. I went to create a custom menu and then hoped to link pages to that. The page tab in the menu section has nothing in it,so I cannot start any page.

  4. My other issue is that, this gravatar is not changing. I refreshed the caches, etc. but no luck. How do I fix that?

  5. If you go to the Pages tab while in your blog Dashboard do you see the Add New button near the top?

  6. Yes, I see add new. What do I do now?

  7. Re:Gravatar, when you login and see your list of blog(s) there is a gear toward the upper right, when you select that then Public Profile what image appears for your gravatar?

  8. It's blank.

  9. Select Add new then create your page. On the right you'll be able to see page attributes like whether it has a parent page, order, or template for creation.

  10. Thanks, I got the pages done. Is there a way that whatever I posted is categorized and only shows up on the pages I created?

Also, what do I do about GE gravatar?

  11. You can set a default category for your posts so that they will automatically be labeled each time your write one.

Your posts show up on your feed page, the pages you create are more static, including whatever information you use to create.

You could create a widget for your sidebar that features only categories you select, then when someone clicks those they will go to a 'page' with only those posts.

Re: you Gravatar, try uploading a new photo so that once you click your settings, the new picture appears.

  12. Is there a way that whatever I posted is categorized and only shows up on the pages I created?

Pages we bloggers create are static they do not automatically update and are for content that rarely changes. They sit outside of the blog structure and you cannot post to multiple pages in any blog. There is only one main page for posts in a blog and all posts will display on the main blog page. There is no way to exclude posts from the main posts (blog) page.

The front page of the blog by default will display your posts (not pages) in reverse chronological order, with the most recently published post on top. If you do not want all the posts to show on the front page, then you can create a static front page “Welcome” for your site and a “Blog” page for posts.
    Choice 1 static front page
Choice 2 running page for all posts on front page
Which do you choose? It’s one or the other.
If you choose a static front page then you have to create two pages as I said above. After you do that you go to > Settings > Reading and make the designation change and click “save changes”.

Though there is only one dynamic page in a blog for posts and we cannot post to more than that one page, we can create the appearance that we have posted to more than one page. We organize posts by assigning categories to them. You can create a custom menu and add the dynamic automatically updating categories pages created by the software into the custom menu.

There are many common errors, misunderstanding and misconceptions when creating custom menus and you can read about them here > http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2011/12/19/custom-menus/

  13. Gravatars only appear on blogs that are equipped to display them and only if the blogger enables display.

    See: http://en.support.wordpress.com/avatars/blavatars/

For best practices for uploading gravatars, avatars and blavatars scroll down to below the video here: http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2010/01/24/gravatar-avatar-blavatar/

Note: Gravatar images are cached and frequently take several days to display after a change. Do not keep uploading! The first place they tend to display is here in the forums and I see your Gravatar here. If several days have passed and that change is not in evidence then post here for Gravatar support > http://en.gravatar.com/site/contact-us/
