Creating static "home" page & moving blog page

  1. I know how to create a static page and I know that I have to go into the "Reading" settings if I want a static page to be my home page. My question is about what happens to my blog page's permalinks. If my current setup has my blog posts as the main 'home' page and I decide to change that setup to have a static 'home' page, will I lose all of my blog post permalinks? If so, is there a way to avoid this?

The blog I need help with is jeffdalydose.wordpress.com.

  2. Hi. If you are asking whether the URLs of your existing posts will change as a result of a static front page, the answer is no, they stay the same.

  3. Thank you for your reply, airodyssey.

I think that is what I'm saying. Right now my blog is my main/home page. The latest post I have has a url of:
    http://jeffdalydose.wordpress.com/2011/04/21/kidstoday/

If I make a static page my main/home page and move my blog to a ".com/blog" page, the url isn't going change to add a "/blog" anywhere thus also changing my permalinks, right?

I think you already answered my question, but since I wasn't clear originally, I thought I'd verify.

    Thank you.

  4. Even if, under Settings > Reading, you set up /blog/ as your "Posts page", the URL does not change.

/blog/ will simply be a place that displays your latest posts.

  5. Perfect. Thank you!!

  6. You're welcome :-)
