I'm currently using the Journalist 1.9 theme with the CSS upgrade, and I was interested in having asides or miniposts.
This excellent forum post ( http://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/css-asides?replies=37 ) from before discusses CSS asides, but it seems to be tailored to Sandbox.
Can asides be implemented on the Journalist 1.9 theme?

I tried it out and by using the same code from the thread you've posted it seems like it cant be done. Nonetheless, I had no idea this could be done in sandbox, thanks for bringing it up!!!!
Haha sure, I hope you enjoy the asides in Sandbox. I was using Sandbox before, and asides worked very nicely there. I was definitely ready for a switch of theme though, and while I generally enjoy Journalist 1.9, it would be great to be able to use asides on it. The particular code from that old thread won't do the job, but I was wondering if anyone else here had any luck with implementing asides in Journalist 1.9.
It's been awhile since I first posted this, so I thought I would bump it up. It would be great if anyone had advice or suggestions. Thanks!
As I understand it, Sandbox is the only theme that has the necessary code in the back end to support asides and it isn't something that can be added by CSS since it requires some hacking in the theme files and we do not have access to those.
