CSS Asides
-
So I’m doing asides via the daily del.icio.us post, you can check it out at http://engtech.wordpress.com
They don’t get sent out to my RSS subscribers.
I may post a complete walk through later if people would like to see one.

Only annoying part. I’m using Next Post / Previous Post navigation on my blog and the asides show up.
Not that big of a deal, but it would be nice to have real asides where they don’t show up as posts.

I just paid for the CSS customization in order to enable this Asides feature. I’ve put the code in the CSS Stylesheet Editor, saved, wrote a post under the Asides category heading….and nothing happened. Anyone know what’s going on?

Perhaps sunburntkamel or drmike can respond to this. Please be patient waiting until they get to you.

Thanks, timethief. I won’t be impatient. I’ve been around these parts since nearly the beginning; I know how it works :)

@talking baseball-
this technique only works with the sandbox (the sandbox applies the category name as a class, no other theme does).
since you’re using k2, you can go use a sandbox version of k2:
http://www.almosteffortless.com/wordpress/k2-lite-for-sandbox/
(you’ll have to replace the images in that CSS with the k2 images in your current theme, as well as your header). -

asides are mini posts, just links, or single line thoughts, not worthy of a full blown heading.
some people put them in their sidebars. that requires doing special things to the loop. the sort of thing that k2 and fauna do for self hosted installs, but we aren’t allowed to have here (those functions are stripped from the options panel), because having smaller, less important thoughts, is clearly illegal, and security risk.

I just purchased the CSS updagrade and I’m trying to implement asides using the code above. It doesn’t seem to be working. Could it be the theme I’m using (cutline) can you tag posts with other categories and the aside tag and still have it work? I removed the “*” from the code should I have left it in? Any help would be great. Thanks!

I used this for k2 and it worked, but I couldn’t figure out how to style the links. Any suggestions?
You can look at the page here: http://www.214studios.com/blog
At the time of this post, I have only written one aside on 11/29/07

Since you are self-hosted and using the software downloaded from wordpress.org, you need to direct your question to http://wordpress.org/support/ . WordPress.com uses a multi-user version of the software which is different and few, if any, here know anything about it.
