CSS customization

  1. I do not know anything about CSS and the tutorials I have found are cryptic / missing information for dummies like me. Is there someone LIVE I can chat with? I think I just need to be pointed in the right direction on one or two items. Thanks!

  2. To build upon my original request, I would like to remove the search box on my site (using the Twenty Eleven theme). I have found a post related to this topic, but I really don't know where to begin with modifying my style sheet. What file do I edit? Where is it located? And so on...

  3. To be even more specific...

In a similar forum, posts from users mention the "header.php" file. Where is that file located?

  4. Ok. Is there a number I can just call for technical support?

  5. Another forum mentioned a twentyeleven-child folder. Where is that located?

  6. Ok. I am getting closer. Another forum mentioned that under the Appearance menu on the Dashboard, there is an Editor / Header subcategory. That does not appear when I look at the Appearance menu. What's the story there?

  7. There is no phone support. The custom design upgrade comes with Staff support. Staff deal with all the CSS forum threads in date order from the earliest date forward.

  8. I would like to remove the search box on my site (using the Twenty Eleven theme).

Here is an example showing how to remove the search box from the navigation bar in the Twenty Eleven theme:

At WordPress.com, tou need to add the CSS to your Appearance → Custom Design → CSS editor to make it work.

You are using WordPress.com, but the forums and tutorials you mentioned are for the downloadable WordPress.org software which you can download and install yourself. They're similar, but there are a few key differences between WordPress.com and WordPress.org. See http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/ to learn about the differences.

The Appearance → Editor option is only available in WordPress.org setups.

  10. Thank you for responding. I eventually figured it out.

  11. Sorry if it was confusing! WordPress.com and WordPress.org are easy to mix up if you weren't aware they are two separate things.
