CSS for Twenty-Twelve adjust the width of the blog

  1. Hi! I am new to the world of wordpress.com css coding. And trying to work out the kinks. One of the issues I'm having is figuring out how to change the width of the blog. I'm trying to make it so that it's actually just a bit smaller about 950px wide. I've tried several codes but they only work to make it larger. When I adjust the px smaller they don't make any change to the blog. Below are the 2 codes I have tried so far:

    First I tried this code (it worked fine for the purpose it was intended which was to scale it up to 1100px but when I tried scaling it smaller there was no change.

    footer[role="contentinfo"] {
    max-width: 950px;
    }
    @media screen and (min-width: px) {
    .site {
    max-width: 950px;
    max-width: 78.571428571rem;
    }
    }
    .ie .site {
    max-width: 950px;
    }

    So then I tried this code:

    .wrapper {
    margin-left: -18px!important;
    width: 950px!important;
    }

    .site-content {
    float: left;
    width: 77%!important;
    }

    .widget-area {
    width: 22.04%!important;
    }

    It worked fine for adjusting the side-bar and main content area but the overall width of the blog was unchanged.

    Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

    The blog I need help with is hbbdtestblog.wordpress.com.

  2. In your first example, you have "@media screen and (min-width: px)" and there needs to be a numerical value before the "px" in that line.

    Try this instead:

    @media screen and (min-width: 600px) {
    	.site {
    		max-width: 800px;
    	}
    }

    Adjust the 800px value as needed.
