Currency Conversion Function

  1. Hey guys,

As mentioned on the subject head,

I've been wanting to add such a function (currency conversion) in my post, but to no avail.

I tried to look for the available widgets (which I have in hand) for such a function, but to no avail as well.

I also tried to integrate java and PHP codings (within the html codings?) with APIs and still to no avail.

(Tried using http://www.exchangerate-api.com/php and http://www.exchangerate-api.com/java for the above).

    So my question is,

is there such a function readily available for free wordpress users out there? If so, could you be so kind to assist me towards integrating (or installing it) in my blog?

    Thank you so much!

The blog I need help with is 1925chevyforsale.wordpress.com.

  2. As this is a multiuser blogging platform and a single bad script on a single blog could bring down many blogs the software strips out JavaScript to preserve security. If you can locate a Flash widget that does what you want then it may be possible to convert it to a gigya shortcode that you can use. If you do find such a Flash widget post the code here between backticks` and we will see it it can be converted to a gigya shortcode.

  3. @timethief,

    Thanks for the heads up.

I found a flash 'code' (I hope that's what you're referring to) and it's a currency converter itself. The codes are,

    <object classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" codebase="http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=9,0,0,0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="380px" height="293px" id="InsertWidget_05fa4bb0-af2d-4036-8c44-6b648f4199bc" align="middle"><param name="movie" value="http://www.widgetserver.com/syndication/flash/wrapper/InsertWidget.swf"/><param name="quality" value="high" /><param name="wmode" value="transparent" /><param name="menu" value="false" /><param name="flashvars" value="r=2&appId=05fa4bb0-af2d-4036-8c44-6b648f4199bc" /><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="sameDomain" /> <embed src="http://www.widgetserver.com/syndication/flash/wrapper/InsertWidget.swf" name="InsertWidget_05fa4bb0-af2d-4036-8c44-6b648f4199bc" width="380px" height="293px" quality="high" menu="false" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" align="middle" allowScriptAccess="sameDomain" flashvars="r=2&appId=05fa4bb0-af2d-4036-8c44-6b648f4199bc" ></embed></object>

I have no idea what is a 'gigya' shortcode, but I'm willing to learn.

Kindly guide me towards what shall we do next.

    Thanks!

  4. @timethief

    Thanks for the link!

I found an alternative ready-made-widget (as you can see below),

    <!-Currency Converter widget - HTML code - fx-rates.net --><div style="width:104px; background-color: #fff;border:2px solid #888;text-align:center;padding:0px;margin:0px"><div style="margin:0px; padding: 3px 0px 2px 0px;text-align:center;background-color:#ccc;border:1px solid #888;width:102;"><b>Currency Converter</b></div><script type="text/javascript" src="http://fx-rate.net/converter.php?size=short&layout=vertical"></script></div><!-end of code-->

But I tried to find a place to 'integrate' this widget into my blog (to no avail).

Is there a particular section under Appearance > Widgets (at the back end of my wordpress blog) which allows me to do so? If not, how do I go about doing the above?

    Kindly advise.

P.S. Thank you so much for your help this far.

  5. As noted above script is not allowed for security reasons:

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/code/

  6. @chevybroker
Too bad but as I said above JavaScript is a no go.

  7. @timethief

    How about this?

    <div id="wpdc_embed_13200065611" style="display: none">Currency Converter</div><head></head><script src="http://www.widgipedia.com/embed/avjack/Currency-Converter_5425w-13200065611t-1320006561487i-0p.js"></script>

    still a java script?

  8. <script src="http:/

    Yup

  9. @auxclass

But the following isn't a javascript, yes?

    <object classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" codebase="http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=9,0,0,0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="380px" height="293px" id="InsertWidget_05fa4bb0-af2d-4036-8c44-6b648f4199bc" align="middle"><param name="movie" value="http://www.widgetserver.com/syndication/flash/wrapper/InsertWidget.swf"/><param name="quality" value="high" /><param name="wmode" value="transparent" /><param name="menu" value="false" /><param name="flashvars" value="r=2&appId=05fa4bb0-af2d-4036-8c44-6b648f4199bc" /><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="sameDomain" /> <embed src="http://www.widgetserver.com/syndication/flash/wrapper/InsertWidget.swf" name="InsertWidget_05fa4bb0-af2d-4036-8c44-6b648f4199bc" width="380px" height="293px" quality="high" menu="false" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" align="middle" allowScriptAccess="sameDomain" flashvars="r=2&appId=05fa4bb0-af2d-4036-8c44-6b648f4199bc" ></embed></object>

  10. allowScriptAccess

  11. @chevybroker: That looks like a Flash code. Have you tried converting it like this?
    http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2010/07/22/gigya-shortcode-3-widgets/

  12. @airodyssey

Yes I've tried (and attempt the following).

    [gigya src="http://www.widgetserver.com/syndication/flash/wrapper/InsertWidget.swf" name="InsertWidget_05fa4bb0-af2d-4036-8c44-6b648f4199bc" width="380px" height="293px"]

    Taken from the original source.

However, the following is the outcome,

    http://content.screencast.com/users/moshingbananas/folders/1925%20chevy%20for%20sale/media/318c7fb0-f9e8-469e-837d-ea45db99ce0d/coding%20issues.jpg

    Why is this so?

  13. That's because you forgot to include the "flashvars"... Try this:
    [gigya src="http://www.widgetserver.com/syndication/flash/wrapper/InsertWidget.swf" name="InsertWidget_05fa4bb0-af2d-4036-8c44-6b648f4199bc" width="380px" height="293px" quality="high" menu="false" wmode="transparent" align="middle" flashvars="r=2&appId=05fa4bb0-af2d-4036-8c44-6b648f4199bc"]

  14. @airodyssey

    Awesome!

    It's working now.

    Thank you so much @airodyssey, @timethief, @auxclass

  15. Sorry guys, but can you view the flash player on your end?

Because I can only see it on my firefox browser.

    (not on Chrome not I.E.)

Kindly check on the right side of the bar at,

    http://www.1925chevyforsale.wordpress.com

  16. I have Firefox 7 and it's there. But it's way too wide.

  17. @airodyssey

    Okay cool!

Well, I got the width changed; and it looks good now.

Though, I am aware that the conversion end of the script is not working.

Still contacting the developer to find out what's wrong with it.

    Thanks again.
