I wrote all the code for this site in Text editor so gauge my css level from what you see

Yes, you would.
It will take a LOAD of work though!
Might be easier if you download the software from http://www.wordpress.org and install it on your hosting. Much more freedom to hack the themes about to suit your needs.
Cheers both you, I've just downloaded and installed on my hosting so hopefully I'm a step closer.
Cheers for the advice, I think this is a job for when the site gets a little more traffic.
