Custom CSS suddenly GONE!

  1. Even with a lot of help, I have spent many, many hours customizing the CSS on my blog. Today, for no reason I can figure, it totally disappeared OUT OF THE BLUE. One minute my site looked like it was designed to look, one "Post draft updated - Preview post" later, all custom design elements were gone (including my header image). What do I do NOW? ANY clues appreciated.

btw- CSS also showing up "blown" on a friends computer, along with some other oddities I cannot see while logged in, and she shouldn't be seeing at all (like, "last invoice date!" and html coding)

To make things worse, my external harddrive crashed and my new one arrived TODAY *after* I lost my CSS.) I'm freaking and would appreciate any help available. (awaiting response from "Happiness" guys already)

    THANKS

The blog I need help with is addandsomuchmore.com.

  2. Above my pay-grade - but I see your account is about a year old - since CSS is per year and requires renewal every year - did the CSS upgrade expire?

  3. Thanks for taking the time to respond, auxclass.

It's not supposed to "expire" - but, in ANY case, I would think they would at least NOTIFY me to pay before they trashed my site for a measly $30. (They have sent recent notifications for domain name renewal, etc., which I handled)

NOW what? If I "install" CSS upgrade at this point and the problem is something ELSE, will the new "install" overwrite with a "virgin" file, effectively making me have to do it all AGAIN?

CSS is not my best friend, so if I don't HAVE to re-figure it all out *again*, I *really* don't want to do anything that might mean I lost my shot at recovering what I had as of this afternoon.

  4. @mghcoach4add

As I understand it, as soon as you renew your CSS customization, your original setup will come back. The file of your changes is still there except that it is no longer linked to your blog.

It is a case of paying another $30 for this year.

    HTH

  5. The Custom CSS is a year-long upgrade, same as all upgrades. The only dollar cost that is a PERMANENT upgrade is purchasing a premium theme. That you get to keep forever. But CSS changes are not free, nor are they eternal.

  6. It's not supposed to "expire"

As raincoaster mentioned, upgrades do expire—they are all yearly subscriptions except premium themes and guided transfers.

In ANY case, I would think they would at least NOTIFY me to pay before they trashed my site for a measly $30.

I reviewed your account, and I found that there are other users listed on the blog besides mghcoach4add and one of those other users had originally purchased the CSS upgrade, so the renewal reminders were sent to the original purchaser (which wasn't you in this case).

If I "install" CSS upgrade at this point and the problem is something ELSE, will the new "install" overwrite with a "virgin" file, effectively making me have to do it all AGAIN?

Nothing will get overwritten! CSS revisions are saved in the blog's Appearance → Custom Design → CSS page under the revisions section.

CSS is not my best friend, so if I don't HAVE to re-figure it all out *again*, I *really* don't want to do anything that might mean I lost my shot at recovering what I had as of this afternoon.

Revisions should also help with that kind of thing!

Looks like you've re-purchased and gotten everything sorted now. Please post back in a new thread if you have any other questions or need any more CSS help.

  7. Thanks to ALL for your responses - very helpful. My CSS came back on board the minute my payment cleared. Apparenty the notice went to someone who is no longer an admin on my blog,

There is still an odd issue to resolve, but THIS one can be marked DONE.\

    MANY thanks.
