Custom Design for the CSS Challenged

  • I am not very familiar with CSS – should I even consider purchasing the Custom Design? I like the idea of having more flexibility, but I don’t want to purchase it and then end up having a very nice tool I cannot use.

I am curious to hear from those who have purchased it.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Short answer: No. You will be very frustrated. Learn the tools first (there’s a list of tutorials in the CSS forum) and practice using the free Preview. Then, when you’re able to make the changes you want, buy the upgrade.

  • I agree with raincoaster. If you don’t know the CSS language and you buy the Custom Design upgrade, all you’ll be able to do is to change the fonts. It will be like buying a book where the preface is in English, but the rest is in a foreign language.

  • I typically help out with CSS and it is also supported by staff (designsimply mostly), but it would be a good idea if you at least had the basics and also knew what CSS is and how it and the markup (XHTML) relate to one another. It isn’t rocket science, but a basic understanding would sure help.

  • Thank you so much – this is exactly what I was looking for. I have a technical base in HMLT and XML, but have never learned CSS.

@airdyssey – your metaphor was perfect.

The last thing I want to do it pepper the staff and volunteers with any more questions than I already am – I am off to buy a book.

You all saved me from a lot of frustration.
