Custom Design Upgrade

  1. Hello,

I'm looking to change the favicon for my wordpress blog/website. I currently have a free blog, however, if I purchase the $30 Custom Design upgrade, will I be able to update my favicon?

I also plan on purchasing a new domain through WordPress - will this give me access to the FTP folders so that I can change the favicon? Will I then have access to "Theme Editor"? I'm currently working with a free theme template.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks
    Jay

The blog I need help with is cameronconsultingco.wordpress.com.

    No need to buy i:

No.That option does not exist on WordPress.com

Will I then have access to "Theme Editor"?

Nor. You have to use one of the themes available here.

  3. No need to buy i = No need to buy it

  4. Thanks Galois. I added the avatar to my WordPress site - however, the favicon in the browser tab still shows the WordPress logo. How do I update this?

  5. Please note it may take a few hours before you see the new one if you change your Blavatar. This is because of our cache, but you can try clearing your browser’s local cache in case the Blavatar doesn’t refresh after a while.

  6. Thanks Galois.

Couple more questions for you if you don't mind. Am I able to download widget/plugins for free WordPress accounts? I'm looking to add an SEO widget to my site.

Also - I've purchased a domain through WordPress and used the email forward function. Am I able to set up my domain emails through Outlook or webmail?

    Thanks,
    Jay

  7. Am I able to download widget/plugins for free WordPress accounts?

    Plugins--> http://en.support.wordpress.com/plugins/

    Add Email through Outlook.com:

    Cheers.

  8. Thanks - apparently Outlook.com doesn't do this anymore: "Outlook.com no longer offers support for new custom domain sign ups."

    Any other suggestions?

  9. Any other suggestions?

Yep, see Related, in the right column for other email services

  10. Hi Galois,

Because the free WordPress Blog doesn't allow for plug-ins and an FTP site, I'm going to be moving my blog/site and domain name to another hosting server.

Can you let me know what the easiest way to do this is?

    Thanks

  11. I can help with that. WordPress.com and WordPress.org are completely separate. http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

    1. Hire a web host http://wordpress.org/hosting/

    2. Set up a WordPress.org install and equip it with a theme and plugins.
    http://wordpress.org/themes/
    http://wordpress.org/plugins/

    3. Export your content out of your WordPress.com blog http://en.support.wordpress.com/export/ and import it into the install.

    4. Purchase a site redirect upgrade from wordpress.com
http://en.support.wordpress.com/site-redirect/ or if you have domain mapping then see here http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/move-domain/#change-name-servers-to-point-the-domain-outside-of-wordpress-com and here http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/move-domain/

    5. Transfer subscribers and stats. See http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/moving-your-subscribers/

    6. Set your wordpress.com blog visibility to private. To change blog visibility to private go to > Settings > Reading scroll to Blog Visibility and choose option 3 . See the guide here http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/privacy-settings/

Alternatively you can purchase a Guided Transfer and Staff will do the move and set up for you http://en.support.wordpress.com/guided-transfer/

WordPress.com and WordPress.org have different log-ins and run different versions of themes with same names. If you don't have a username account at WordPress.ORG click http://wordpress.org/support/ and register one on the top right hand corner of the page that opens, so you can post to the support forums there and receive advice from WordPress.ORG bloggers.

  12. Hi Timethief,

I'm thinking of purchasing the Premium WordPress account instead. However, I recently paid $18 for a new domain name with WordPress - will WordPress charge me less because of this recent purchase?

Also - does the premium account allow me to download plug-ins and have an FTP site? Does it allow me to change the CSS of my current theme? What about changing the HTML of my current theme?

    Thanks
    Jay
