customise opti

  1. Hello,

    I have just embarked on opti theme and would like to make the text column narrower with css. I have done that, but I can only apply it to the text below the title. COuld you help with narrowing the whole column including the title?

    Also, I have noticed that once I have increased the font-size and narrowed the text - the rules started to apply also to the archives pages - which I want to leave the way they are. How do I divorce the text from the excerpts on the archive pages?

    Thank you for your help!

    The blog I need help with is bezego.com.

  2. Hi, you can specifically target pages or types of pages by body class so that changes only apply to that specific page or type of page.

    At the top of the main home page, below the navigation, is the featured post section. Below that is the recent posts area, is this the area you want to narrow? If so, did you want to increase the width of the sidebar to the left of the recent posts area or did you just want to narrow the recent posts section in the lower center?

    This would narrow the recent posts content area (by 10%) and leave the left sidebar the same width.

    .home .row #recent-posts.ninecol {
        width: 60.5%;
        margin-right: 5%;
    }
  3. Sorry, got distracted and hit submit too soon. :)

    Try the above and see what you think, and if this isn't the solution you are looking for, let me know.

  4. Upon rereading your post, I think you may want to narrow the entire theme content area. If that is the case, add this and adjust as you desire. The original had a max-width of 1140px. I've used 940px in my example below. This will affect only the main home page, not other pages.

    .home .row {
        max-width: 940px;
    }
  5. Oh, thank you! These are inspiring suggestions and I will definitely experiment with them. :)

    One more thing I cannot manage on my own is the color of post titles. The look I want to achieve is this:

    (1) The byline (? - I mean the author and date under the post title) - black - whole of it on every page.
    (2) The clickable posttitle in "recent articles", "lead article" and "archives" - blue, BUT: posttitles in featured categories - black.

    Is it possible at all? I have been struggling with it for few hours now :(

    Thank you for your help. It is greatly appreciated!

  6. 1. links in post metadata below title.

    .postmetadata a, .entry-date {
        color: #000000;
    }

    2. Sorry, can't read your language Can you help me out by putting the names here in your language?

    In general, this changes widget link colors.

    .widget li a, .textwidget li a {
    color: #CC0000 !important;
    }
  7. Thank you!

    1. I have put the code and a funny thing happened. It changes the color of the whole line into black - but only while I am in the customize mode. Once I go back to the blog - only the color of the date is changed. The author is still blue. Strange?

    2. Sure: I want all post titles that are in "najnowsze wpisy" on the main page as well as the post titles on the archive pages in blue. However when I coded for this - the colour of titles in the "featured categories" on the left handside of the home page has changed as well. And I want post titles in "featured categories" to stay black :)

    Thank you for your help so much. I got so frustrated with this theme that I was on the verge of quitting. :) Plus I am learning a lot. :)

  8. 1. Are you still not seeing the author in black? I'm seeing it in black in Safari, Firefox and Chrome.

    2. We will use a more specific selector to keep the titles in featured categories from changing. The below will change all instances of post titles on the home page and in the archives pages.

    #recent-excerpts h4, #recent-excerpts h4 a, .excerpt-wrap h2.posttitle a {
        color: #266B87;
    }

    If you also want to change the titles on the single post pages and on regular pages, such as Contact, you can add the following as well.

    h1.pagetitle, h1.posttitle {
        color: #266B87;
    }

    Opti is a great theme, but it can be a little frustrating when working with the CSS. It's CSS does give you a lot of control though.

    We are happy to help out though when you have questions, so do let us know.

    If you are not yet using the developer tool in your browser, take a look at our screencasts on How to find your theme's CSS.

  9. Wow! Thank you. My blog is definitely coming close to my ideal. Thank you so much for all your help :)

  10. Hello thesacredpath :)

    I have run into another problem that I cannot deal with on my own. Namely I have changed the header/footer color into the default (almost black). Unfortunately the font in the widgets in the footer as well as in dropdown submenu is also black and thus barely visible. Can we change the font color in these two areas into white?

    Thank you!

    (I hope you had a good weekend :))

  11. I have noticed two funny things. Once I moved back to default link colour (1) the drop-down submenu turned into greyish,
    (2) the background greyish color of a featured post as well as widget titles turned much lighter in color.
    Is it possible to keep these two default things while changing link colors?
    Thank you for the link How to find your theme's CSS :). I am using firebug - I just cannot find all the selectors there for these two issues.

  12. @bezego, on your "4 powody żeby “śledzić” blog" text widget in the footer, you have a span tag in the widgets with color: #000000 declared. You will need to edit your text widget and get rid of those span tags.

    On the submenus, I'm seeing black text on a grey background. What exactly where were you wanting for the submenus?

    You can use more targeted selectors to change just certain types of links. I can help you with that if you let me know what exactly you are wanting to change.

  13. Yes. Thank you. :)

    Sorry for not being clear. I will try my best now. I noticed that when I change anything in default colors, some other default things change as well. I would like to be able to mess with colors without changing other default traits. I hope you can access my customisation (?). If yes, please try to change any color and notice how:
    (1) the color of dropdown menu (tematy) changes from light grey shade into dark unreadable.
    (2) the color of grey background of the featured post as well as background of widget titles and submenu goes darker (I tried to change the color of featured post background back to the default, but then the font-size changes (o_0) as well);
    (3) the underline of links goes poof :)
    (4) the color of the text that I cannot access in the "follow" widget in the footer also changes into black.
    I just hope that you can access my customisation and see it for yourself. It is very strange :)
    Thank you!

  14. Hi there - I took a look at this and I can't reproduce what you describe. You are saying that this happens when you change the colors in the little circles in the Appearance->Customize->Colors area, correct?

    When I change a color there, it changes only the color of the area specified. Can you please try the same thing in an alternate browser, such as Chrome to see if you have the same problem there? That would rule out any possible browser-related issue.

    If the same thing happens, can you please reply with a specific example of one area you would like to change and what color you're trying to change it to, so I can make sure I'm doing the exact same thing you are? Thanks! :)

  15. I noticed that when I change anything in default colors, some other default things change as well.

    I tried testing this as well and couldn't see the problem. It's possible I'm not looking in the right place. Could you give me a step-by-step example to reproduce the problem including the path to get to the tool you are using such as Appearance > Customize > CSS or Appearance > Customize > Colors?

  16. Thank you.

    Eurello: Yes. It happens even when I try another browser.

    Designsimply and Eurello: I am using "Customise" and then choose colors cirlces. CSS thanks to god is not affected. It is very strange that you cannot replicate the problem :( Is there any chance of correcting it then?

  17. @bezego, can you tell us what circle (element) you are changing, and what other element in the theme is changing colors along with it? We can then take a closer look and see if we can replicate what you are seeing.

  18. Yep. ANY circle :) If I change color of any element the following changes as well:
    (1) the color of dropdown menu (ZROZUM SWOJE EMOCJE) changes from light grey shade into dark unreadable.
    (2) the color of grey background of the featured post as well as background of widget titles and submenu goes darker (I tried to change the color of featured post background back to the default, but then the font-size changes (o_0) as well);
    (3) the underline of links goes poof :)
    (4) the color of the text that I cannot access in the "follow" widget in the footer also changes into black.
    (5) the blue highlight in the main navigation menu turns into white (regardless of the link color I choose).

    I have saved a print screen - opti theme problem - in my library :)

    Thank you for looking into this!

  19. Also I have just discovered that my facebook like box under the text shows "10", even though only yesterday it was "99", so obviously it has cut off the third digit. Could you please do sth about it? the text in question is http://bezego.com/2013/10/04/pochwala-lenistwa-czyli-spiskowa-teoria-kultury-zachodu/

    Obviously I am very unhappy with this development... :(

  20. Although in google chrome it shows "108" o_0 Is it possible to make it visible also in firefox...?

  21. I see "108" in the blog subscriptions widget, which is below the facebook likebox widget, where I see it reading, "Join 108 other followers". Your facebook like box is showing 94 likes to the right of the like button.

    I'm playing with the Opti custom colors right now and will report back shortly.

  22. Thank you sacredpath :) it is actually a funny coincidence that there is 108 followers as well. But I meant the FB button at the bottom of the text that people click when they like individual text and want to publish it on their FB wall :D I meant this text http://bezego.com/2013/10/04/pochwala-lenistwa-czyli-spiskowa-teoria-kultury-zachodu/ :) And I have also printed the screen as "FB button". You can see 10, even though in google chorme it shows 108, and as I said - yesterday there was 99, so 8 got chopped off :(

    I am eagerly awaiting the results of your playing with Opti :)

  23. I'm seeing the FB and Twitter numbers just fine in Firefox and Chrome, but not in Safari. In Safari, there is part of the code that is not loading, but no sign of related errors. In Firefox, try clearing the browser cache and then take another look. I'm on Firefox 24.0 on Mac. It looks like you are on Firefox 23, is that correct?

  24. wow! I wrote a response a month ago and just peeped in to make sure there is no answer. strange :S

    Thank you! I have firefox 25 - at least this is what it says when I click firefox info. I cleared cache but it did not help. Is there any other way, perhaps?

    Also my colors still do not work. I would really like to change them. :)

    Thank you for your help :)

  25. I am not sure whether it is related, but firefox also does not show the no of FB followers. I do not care about it, though, so do not worry - I just thought that perhaps it is useful info for you when fixing this individual text likes no...?

  26. I checked http://bezego.com/2013/10/04/pochwala-lenistwa-czyli-spiskowa-teoria-kultury-zachodu/ and here is what I see for the FB followers for the one just below the post using Firefox 25.0.1 on a Mac: https://cloudup.com/cvilf7kKAOq

    If you're still having trouble with that, could you try the following troubleshooting steps first and let me know if these steps help?

    1. First, is that the right FB thing to look at? There are a few different ones on the page.

    2. Upgrade to the latest stable version of Firefox, see http://browsehappy.com/ (sounds like perhaps you already have the latest version installed, could you verify?)

    3. Make sure you're looking at a normal zoom level. Go to View > Zoom > Reset.

  27. Thanks for the detailed review about the colors that you posted earlier!

    (1) the color of dropdown menu (ZROZUM SWOJE EMOCJE) changes from light grey shade into dark unreadable.
    (2) the color of grey background of the featured post as well as background of widget titles and submenu goes darker (I tried to change the color of featured post background back to the default, but then the font-size changes (o_0) as well);
    (4) the color of the text that I cannot access in the "follow" widget in the footer also changes into black.

    I've filed a request to see if someone can look into these for you and possibly update the theme's color rules.

    (3) the underline of links goes poof :)

    I tested this in my own blog and it doesn't happen with every palette, so I think it just depends on which palette you chose and the intent of the design is that the underlining might go away with some color choices.

    (5) the blue highlight in the main navigation menu turns into white (regardless of the link color I choose).

    I couldn't reproduce this. Could you try temporarily removing your custom CSS and try again to see if the problem is being caused by CSS you added?

  28. sure. I will do that and let you know. thank you. just one question about fb box (yes. this is the little culprit): i am not sure where "View > Zoom > Reset" is? is it firefox function?

  29. Yes. View > Zoom > Reset is a Firefox function. It's a guess though, I'm not sure if it will help but it's something to try.

  30. thank you - for some reason when I click the orange "firefox" box at the top left corner of the screen View function is not there. Could you advise me on its location?
