Customization (header, footer, buttons)

  1. Hello. I didn't find anything on the web that could help me with my theme's customization.

    Here are the things I'd like to do:
    * move menu links to the center of the page
    * add a little more space between those links and the first post
    * edit credit/text on the footer - I will still provide credit but I want to have it written differently
    * change the color of the navigation buttons to white and remove the border around the 'leave a comment' button

    I'm hoping that customizing these would be possible. Thank you!

    The blog I need help with is yjanas.com.

  2. edit credit/text on the footer - I will still provide credit but I want to have it written differently

    that gets your blog suspended

  3. Current Terms of Service:

    11. Attribution. Automattic reserves the right to display attribution links such as ‘Blog at WordPress.com,’ theme author, and font attribution in your blog footer or toolbar. Footer credits and the WordPress.com toolbar may not be altered or removed regardless of upgrades purchased.

    The current policy about the footer in the support documentation:

    May I remove the ‘Blog at WordPress.com’ credit in my site’s footer?
    Although the Custom Design Upgrade certainly grants you the capability to hide the credit from your site’s footer, you are not permitted to do so. Even our VIP bloggers are required to maintain the credit.

  4. Oh no no I won't remove it, I just want to have it in two lines and italicized if possible c:

  5. I won't remove it, I just want to have it in two lines and italicized if possible

    To italicize all of the text in the footer area of the Portfolio theme, add this to your Appearance > Customize > CSS editor:

    .copyright {
    	font-style: italic;
    }
  6. * move menu links to the center of the page

    To center the menu items in the Portfolio theme, add this to your Appearance > Customize > CSS editor:

    nav[role="navigation"] {
    	text-align: center;
    	width: 100%;
    }
    nav[role="navigation"] li {
    	display: inline-block;
    }
  7. * add a little more space between those links and the first post

    To add extra space between the main menu and the elements below it in the Portfolio theme, add this to your Appearance > Customize > CSS editor:

    nav[role="navigation"] {
    	padding-bottom: 3em;
    }

    You can combine CSS rules too. So instead of adding a whole separate rule for that, you can modify the previous example from earlier and add the "padding-bottom" line to that one like this:

    nav[role="navigation"] {
    	text-align: center;
    	width: 100%;
    	padding-bottom: 3em;
    }

    Adjust the 3em value as needed.

  8. * edit credit/text on the footer - I will still provide credit but I want to have it written differently

    WordPress.com's terms of service prohibit changing or hiding the text in the footer credits.

    However, you can add plain text to a footer area using CSS. Here is an example:

    #copyright-text:before {
    	content: "This is an example of adding plain text with CSS.";
    	display: block;
    }
  9. * change the color of the navigation buttons to white

    Do you mean the navigation buttons that have text such as "Older posts" in them? To change the background to white and the text to gray, and also add a light gray border, to match the other similar elements on the page, add this to your Appearance > Customize > CSS editor:

    #infinite-handle span {
    	background: #fff;
    	border: 1px solid #e5e5e5;
    	color: #515151;
    	text-shadow: none;
    }

    and remove the border around the 'leave a comment' button

    .comment-num {
    	border: none;
    }
  10. Portfolio is one of my favorite themes—good choice!

    Your pictures are fantastic!

  11. Thank you so, so much for the help!! I'll try these out when I get my laptop back. :)
