Customizing mobile site

  1. Hi,

I'm building a website using Delicious Magazine theme and couldn't find answers in the existing forums. I would like to know the following:

    1. Is there a way to customize the colors and the kind of posts that appear on the homepage of the mobile version. I'd need to maintain corporate identity and design between desktop and mobile version.

    2. On the desktop version, there will be an extensive menu with sub-menu. Is there a way to display only the headers of the menu without the submenu on the mobile version (otherwise it's way too long)?

    3. All the mobile versions I saw have the same blue at the top, pictures don't show, it's only text. Is there any way to reuse some pictures of the homepage as button to enter the mobile site? I'd almost like to use the mobile version with an app approach for users.

Thanks a lot for your help

    Claire

The type of posts that appear will be the same for the mobile version and other screen sizes.

Because the Delicious Magazine theme does not have a responsive (mobile) design, you will probably want to use WordPress.com's mobile theme, see http://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/mobile-themes/

The mobile theme can be customized with CSS by going to Appearance > Customize > CSS and checking the "Include this CSS in the Mobile Theme" option. Then you can use ".mobile-theme" at the beginning of your CSS selectors to target just the mobile theme.

  3. 2. On the desktop version, there will be an extensive menu with sub-menu. Is there a way to display only the headers of the menu without the submenu on the mobile version (otherwise it's way too long)?

Do you mean keep the first level and hide any additional menus? Yes, you could do that using custom CSS.

  4. 3. All the mobile versions I saw have the same blue at the top, pictures don't show, it's only text. Is there any way to reuse some pictures of the homepage as button to enter the mobile site? I'd almost like to use the mobile version with an app approach for users.

You cannot make dynamic content changes using CSS only (i.e. make featured images show up on the mobile theme if they aren't already included). But you could adjust the blue color or add a header background image using custom CSS.

  5. Many thanks for your detailed reply! For some reasons, I thought Delicious Magazine was actually responsive to mobile device. The available mobile themes look great, I will definitely switch to one of those. All my questions seem to be answered now, thanks again.
