Customizing the side bar - twenty twelve theme

  1. I'm thinking of putting a sidebar in my blog posts with just 2 widgets - recent posts and follow me. When I do this, it just look wrong and out of place - please have a look at any of my posts (not the front page).

    Is there any way of customizing the layout of the side bar so that it looks better? So maybe putting the widgets a bit further down the page, or changing the colour, adding a border, etc?

    Better yet, is there a way to put the widgets at the bottom of each post rather than the side?

    The blog I need help with is thewiseways.com.

  2. This will put the widgets down below the posts, but it will take some more tweaking of things, including doing something with the main content area on the post pages and then some more tweaking on what to do to get the widgets spread out horizontally. The other issue is that this could cause the responsive design of twenty twelve to go wacky. I would suggest just spacing the sidebar down a little so that it looks better as that will cause the fewest problems with alignment on all sizes of monitors.

    #main {
        padding-bottom: 380px;
        position: relative;
    }

    #secondary {
        bottom: 0;
        position: absolute;
    }

    This option just spaces the sidebar down a little so that it aligns with the content.

    .widget-area {
        margin-top: 4.0rem;
    }
  3. Thanking you again sacredpath.. I've taken the second option and looks a lot better now.

  4. You are welcome.
