Dashboard

  1. Why is the dashboard is so different today?

  2. Please post an active link to the blog in question starting with http://
Here at WordPress.com our major dashboard changes took place in mid-May. http://en.blog.wordpress.com/2011/05/19/just-write/

  3. In fact a month ago you posted this same question and Staff answered you then. Take note that there is no such thing as changing the dashboard back to the way it was. You will need to learn how to work with the way it is now. http://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/dashboard-6?replies=38

  4. This time, I don't see the 'RIGHT NOW" thing on the Dashboard.

  5. I repeat: Please post an active link to the blog in question starting with http://

  6. Go to the top right hand corner of your Admin page. http://blin90.wordpress.com//wp-admin/ Locate screen options and click the link then select the module. See illustration here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/screen-options/

If that does not work report your issue to Staff here http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/ After using the searchbox at the bottom there will be a section that says “Have you found the answer to your question?” You can choose either “Yes I found the answer to my question.” or “No I didn’t find the answer to my question and I would like to contact support for help.” The no option will reveal the contact form.

  7. My dashboard is missing the RIGHT NOW section. Don't know what happened.

  8. Please report your issue to Staff here http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/ After using the searchbox at the bottom there will be a section that says “Have you found the answer to your question?” You can choose either “Yes I found the answer to my question.” or “No I didn’t find the answer to my question and I would like to contact support for help.” The no option will reveal the contact form.

  9. FILLED OUT. THX.

  10. You're welcome.

  11. This was clearly done by the staff on purpose, so reports aren't going to be news to anyone. Going to Screen Options reveals that the option for the Right Now box has been replaced by the chance to put up a nag box to update my browser in its place; the Right Now box option is gone.

And before anyone says "So, update your browser": Firefox has decided not to support OS 10.4 any longer, and I don't have $100+ to spend on also upgrading system software. It shouldn't cost me money to turn off a nag about free software.

  12. Gosh I just checked mine and found the "Right Now" box is gone too. I didn't notice that previously. :(

  13. Smooth, @timethief.

  14. The loss of the "Right Now" box is extremely painful. It was the most useful section of my Dashboard, and there is no apparent replacement, nor any coherent explanation as to why it was removed. In what altered usability universe does this make sense?

If there is some way to use any Gadgets to recreate this most valuable and often used portion of the Dashboard, would the keeper of that information be so kind as to post it here?

    Thanks!

  15. We have replaced the outdated Right Now Dashboard widget with the newly polished Your Stuff widget.

The widget will be, in short better, and expandable, so you should be seeing your favorite Right Now features added back in shortly as well as a few new additions.

  16. thecrowsaid, regarding your browser troubles, try Opera.

Opera 11.11 support Intel-based Macs running 10.4 and Opera 10.63 supports PPC-based Macs running 10.4:

    http://www.opera.com/browser/download/?os=mac&list=all

Both versions of Opera are a bit more advanced than Firefox 3.6, which was the last to support 10.4.

  17. What about the "incoming links" widget on the dashboard? That just keeps going "loading..." and not doing anything even though the other widgets (except for the "right now" of course) load up just fine.

  18. This is the latest info we have about the incoming links not working:
    http://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/incoming-links-suddenly-stopped?replies=22#post-612723

Maybe macmanx or another staff member can provide us an update (if there is one)

  19. @macmanx

Trying Opera and not hating it now that I have adblock working, but I'm having severely annoying bookmark issues that I can't find answers for in the docs. This probably isn't the place for it, but can you point me toward some more detailed help?

  20. bwmedia and airodyssey, the latest update is that it's still broken. For some reason, Google is not giving us consistently reliable results. I recommend relying on the Referrers in your Site Stats for this kind of information instead, as it's much more real-time and the query that Google uses for the incoming links.

thecrowsaid, it would probably be best to contact us or start a new thread on that.

  21. From what I understand from what is written over here...the RIGHT NOW would be replaced by YOUR STUFF.

I already have something called YOUR STUFF in my Dashboard, but I believe it was always there...even when I started my blog two years ago.

And it doesn't really show anything helpful like the number of posts, comments, pages etc.

What it does show is things like:
    - Person A had commented on your blog.
    - New Post: "An Example Post"
    - Updated: "Another Example Post"

I could live without all these...what I want is the old RIGHT NOW widget. So, is WP planning to put that feature back on our Dashboards??

  22. I agree -- I like being able to see at a glance how many categories & tags I have without having to hop to multiple pages, as well as checking the spam filter from there, and other handy tasks that didn't require me to hunt around. I'm not impressed with the "Your Stuff" widget, which is just a list of posts & comments, not unlike what was there before and which I rarely did more than glance at.

I hope that the functionality of the "Right Now" widget returns even if it's called something else.

  23. I agree with all those wanting to see Right Now come back - very useful, was fine as it was. Please bring it back.

  24. I am having trouble locating the widget control with the new dashboard (was present yesterday on the main dashboard page itself). I was wondering if anyone could help me out with figuring out how to modify/view my widgets on this new dashboard?

  25. Sorry about that guys, finally managed to find it after all that searching. A little more roundabout, but there nonetheless. Thanks for the help in the future :)

  26. The "my stuff" isn't the same as "right now" ...are they bringing right now back ...confused here.

  27. @happypoppeye
I see the word "replaced" in what macmanx said above. :(

"We have replaced the outdated Right Now Dashboard widget with the newly polished Your Stuff widget."

  28. are 4 days that I no longer have the widgets Right Now and not even the new Your Staff. I have also written to support but I haven't received reply.
    It's frustrating.

  29. I'm with you guys.I don't like the new YOUR STUFF.I mean,it has ALWAYS been there. And I never expand it.I want RIGHT NOW back *sigh*
