Defamation of a friend of mine on a wordpress blog

  1. I am writing to this forum in need to assistance. One of my friends, Goh Meng Seng, has been seriously defamed the following blog: http://bullshitgms.wordpress.com/

This blog casts Goh Meng Seng in a very negative light and is a blatant attack on his character. I am writing in on his behalf because Goh Meng Seng is not very PC literate.

The blog alleges that my friend Goh Meng Seng washes his dirty linen in public, calls him a toilet attendant, and even has a Chinese poem which gravely insults his character.

Goh Meng Seng is very distressed over this blog and would like to know what action can be taken to remove it.

  3. They won't do anything in the absence of a court order. If your friend has been defamed he will want to talk to a lawyer and have that lawyer send a letter.

I, personally, would ignore it. A life well-lived, in honour, speaks for itself and has, obviously, attracted people like you who support this person. If they want to take the legal route, they need to talk to a lawyer, but believe me, most people reading personal attacks on the internet think "well, there's backstory there we're not hearing." People realize the internet is a place where rants take place, rather than good character analysis.

  4. Freedom of speech is one of the things that makes this country what it is. It can often be a double edged sword which should be weilded very gently. I agree with raincoaster in that when people read personal attacks they usually take it with a grain of salt. It sounds to me like your friend is the lucky one here, he has a friend that is willing to pinch hit for him and fight for his character - that to me speaks volumes...

Let go and let God deal with those people, if you do that, then you are already on the winning side - both of you. Remember, what goes around comes around!

  5. Remember, too, that we're not talking about one country. I'm not bloggin from the US, but I understand US laws and the protection WP.com policy affords me. If WP.com failed me, I would take refuge in the laws of my country.

  6. Thank you for your responses. I agree that freedom of speech is an essential part of any society (I am from Hong Kong), but with freedom comes responsibility.

Competition of ideas is important. You have each given me something to think about :-)

  7. Best of luck winning out over the inaccurate claims of your friend's enemies. I think the power of the internet is on your side.

  8. leemingsherng: you can use freedom of speech on the internet to your advantage - dedicate a post to your friend refuting all those claims made by that blog. send a trackback there so whoever reads that might click on your trackback and see your friend's side of the story.

  9. If it's any consolation, no one really seems to care what that guy thinks. No comments, it doesn't seem like he gets lots of traffic, and I probably would've never seen this blog had it not been for this post.

Besides, as jehovahroi, what goes around comes around. Good things happen to good people :)

    Good luck.
