   When a user comments on my blog, I get a mail notification, so I can immediatly reply to him. But, unless the user has remembered to choose to receive all following comments to the post (even those unrelated to his), he won't get anything to notify him I have answered.

   This way, it is clearly impossible to carry on any conversation, and that's a real pity.

   Isn't there an option to automatically send them a notification only someone replies to their comments, or just only when I as the blog owner reply to the comment? Possibly neither compulsory nor opt-in, opt-out would be perfct. I have searched, but no one seems to have a solution.

   The user can choose to receive the updates by checking the 'Notify me of follow-up comments via email' checkbox at the bottom of the comment box.

   You will need to make sure you have this configured correctly in order for it to work.

   I know, I have already seen that page, that's not what I need.

   The problem is my visitors won't, in general, think of selecting "notify me of new comments".

   And I understand that: they are probably not intrested in what other people will write about the post.
   But they probably are intersted in what other people will reply directly to them, or at least, to what I reply to them.

   So that option is not what I want: there should be a separate one to receive notifications only for replies, and not for all comments; and be active by default, that is, opt-out instead of opt-in.

   (as for now, comment subscriptions are enabled, but I have only 3 of them, the most recent of which for a post more than two months old)

   Thank you for your feedback, in general we think it is better to encourage people to get involved in the whole conversation which is why the subscription options available are for all the comments on a post.
