Definition of Featured Image?

    Sorry if this is a daft question, but I think I must be missing something..
    Im using the iTheme2 theme and I'm trying to activate the 'Featured Posts' section at the top, but I cant seem to get it to work. The most recent post on my blog is sticky and I inserted the image as a featured image but I still cant seem to get the darn thing to show up!

    On a side-note when I preview the Autofocus theme, none of my images (all of which have been inserted as featured images) show up either, I must be missing something here!

    Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Putting an image in a post and making it a Featured image are two different things. You can put the Featured image in and it'll show on the main blog page without showing up in the post.

    Ah right, none of mine are going in as featured images then, any idea what I might be doing wrong? When I add an image that I want to be featured I'm clicking on the 'Set featured image' button in the bottom right of my dashboard, moving over to the URL tab, filling in URL, Title and generally using an alignment. Hope this sheds some light on how I'm not getting this!

    Ah I 'THINK' I may get this now, can featured images only be images you upload yourself? Not ones you add via URL?
