Delete Spam Is Not Working

  1. I have over 9,000 spams blocked on my site. I have tried clearing out my spam and it does not work. I started trying to use this feature at 3,000 spams and the clear feature did not work and the spam just keeps growing. I need help with this feature.
    Thank you,

The blog I need help with is witchesofthecraft.com.

  2. The vast and overwhelming majority of all so-called information on the internet is spam. Over 80% of all so-called comments submitted to .wordpress.com blogs every day are spam. Spam comes in waves. There are human beings who get paid to post spam. There are robotic programs that post spam.

    Click the "empty spam" button
    http://witchesofthecraft.com/wp-admin/edit-comments.php?comment_status=spam

On the spam that Akismet catches it takes only seconds to click "empty spam" and you don't even have to click "empty spam" if you don't want to. Akismet will maintain comments it has caught for 15 days from the time they were received, and then it will delete the comment automatically.

If you get spam that slips by Akismet then mark it as spam (do not delete it) and over time Akismet will learn it's spam. Spammers are becoming more inventive every day. Akismet is a learning engine. If you get spam that slips by Akismet then mark it as spam (do not delete it) and over time Akismet will learn it's spam.

There is no such thing as eliminating all spam but Akismet works very well. For more information please take the time to read "5 things every blogger should know about spam" on this page Akismet: How it works http://akismet.com/how/

The best way to reduce spam is via comment settings. Do not allow comments on older posts and do not allow anonymous commenting an you will see your spam go down immediately.

  3. P.S. I tagged this thread for Staff to examine your blog just in case there's a technical issue I cannot detect.

  4. Hi Lady A - It looks like a couple of your approved comments might be spam. When you approve spam comments, it increases the amount of spam you get, because spammers see that they can get through. Sometimes it's hard to tell the difference, but this might help: http://blog.akismet.com/2007/11/27/it-really-is-spam/

I emptied your spam for you - it did take me two times to empty it, since it was so full, but it's all gone now. :)
