DePo customization with CSS

    Hi there,

    I am trying to get rid of the excess of white space between my custom header in DePo and the menu. I have looked through CSS for "padding" and fiddled with that, but I really have no idea what I am doing. Once upon a time I edited my Blogger site all by myself, but seeing as how this is my business site, I am more hesitant to make a terrible disaster.

    Also, while I'm asking for help:

    Is there a way to make timestamps disappear, eg "In Uncategorized on 05/20/2010 at 9:25 PM" ?
    Is it possible to center the widgets in the footer? They are all left- aligned.

    Blogger blogs and wordpress.com blogs are completely differnt. We cannot access the HTMP and PHP files for the templates underlying our themes on this multiuser blogging pltform, let alone, edit them. We can only make styling changes through CSS editing if we purchase an upgrade and do the work on our own.

    If you are considering purchasing the upgrade, you can go to Appearance > Edit CSS. There wordpress has provided a preview function where you can try before you buy.

    I do have the CSS upgrade :)

    Thanks for the links, I will check them out. Still learning the ins and outs of WordPress navigation - glad to see there is so much support. I can't believe they are volunteers though!

    Yes, we are all unpaid Volunteers. This is the open source community. It's not the Google big daddy community l... lol :D But do be patient when waiting for replies as most of us are multitasking. :)

    Add this to your custom CSS along with any existing modifications, make sure "add to existing stylesheet" is selected and remember not to copy in all the existing declarations.

    #container h1 {margin-bottom:0;}
.sitename {height:153px;}
#content small {display:none;}
#sidebar ul li {text-align:center;}

    Thank you hallluke! The widgets are centered, hooray!

    Any ideas for nixing the excess white space or making timestamps invisible? :)

    The first two lines should remove the gap under your header image, the third should remove the metadata on each post. Make sure you've added it to the bottom of your custom CSS styles. You should only add the specific changes you make rather than copy-pasting in the whole of the original stylesheet with modifications. Also remember to check the "add to existing stylesheet" option as I mentioned above.

    On the Depo subject. Does anyone know a similar theme that offers more options to customized?

    From memory both "Under the Influence" and "Inuit Types" let you have posts tiled across the page rather than just falling below the previous entry. They are both fairly new themes so have more options for customisation. The other option is to get learning CSS if you want to change more colours/fonts/sizes/positions etc. I wouldn't recommend buying the upgrade unless you're fairly confident with it though.
