I now have my site verified by google, Thanks to the happy engineer :) but it is still showing as not indexed in the 'is my blog working' page and still doesn't come up in a google search.
What is the difference between the two and how do I get indexed?

Yep, as tellyworth says, wait. It can take up to 4-6 weeks potentially (though usually shorter).
