digg short code.

  1. I am trying to add the digg button to my posts. I have followed the directions to a "T" and am coming up short. Admittedly I am not computer savvy so I am having an issue as to where and how to put the short code [digg= ]. Any suggestions.

The blog I need help with is erichardville.wordpress.com.

  2. By the way my site url is http://www.soupalaxy.wordpress.com. Thanks.

  3. 10) Now come back to your post on WordPress.com. Edit the post and add the shortcode [digg= ] with the URL from step 9.

    11) Publish the post

Now if you want to have a broader reach than just digg, and if you are a PC user, may I suggest looking at GetSocial, which will automatically generate links to all the major social networking sites.

  4. That is where I am having trouble. I don't know what it should look like to put it in my post. I know what the url should look like but where and how does the short code look with the url. Forgive my ignorance here.

  5. It looks like [digg=URL] such as [digg=http://raincoastermedia.com/2009/05/08/brussels-sprouts-and-unicorns-book-launch/]

  6. Thank you very much.

  7. You're welcome. Let us know if you have any more problems.

  8. Thanks for the help. I followed the steps perfectly and did the code just like it was shown but all I get is code on the post in the visual instead of a button. Also on the page it looks just like this [Digg] instead of button.

  9. Which tab are you putting the shortcode in, the Visual Editor or the HTML Editor?

  10. I am putting it in the html editor.

  11. Try it in the visual editor. That's what I always use.

  12. Ok. I will try it.

  13. I put in the code and I am still getting [Digg] on the actual post. This is what I am putting in exactly. [digg=http://soupalaxy.wordpress.com/2009/05/10/heres-to-my-mother-and-the-joke-she-played-on-me/]

The FAQ is incorrect. You don't put the URL of the original post, but the Digg URL.

Once you have the details entered in Digg, it has a URL like: http://digg.com/business_finance/10_Tips_For_New_Freelancers. Once you've done the dupe test and pressed "Totally original", you can get the URL by copying the link from the 'Favourite' option on the Digg submission success screen

That's the one you need to put in the [digg=] tag. It works fine with that.

  16. Nice, It works like a charm that way. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR EVERYONES HELP. YOU HAVE ALL BEEN GEAT. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

  17. still does not work. Do I need to have any widget since I'm hosting wordpress myself?

  18. If you're hosting wordpress yourself, the shortcode for WordPress.COM will never work. See the WordPress.ORG forums for support on that.

Hi, I also have a wordpress.com blog, have been publishing in visual editor and I have been having the same problem as erichardville even after following the steps exactly.

I have [digg=http://digg.com/food_drink/Preparing_for_Babies_in_Your_Food_Storage] but it shows up once I publish as [digg].

    Help!

  20. The site linked to your name is not a WordPress.com blog and the instructions will not work there.

http://preparednesspro.wordpress.com IS a wordpress.com blog. Why would these instructions not work?

  22. Thank you for the link. These instructions ONLY work on WordPress.com blogs. The site linked to your name is http://womenofcaliber.com/, which is not a WordPress.com blog. You will want to be changing that link unless you want to always be adding posts to correct the link in the forum. How could anyone guess your WordPress.com blog, out of five million?

Now: are you posting it in the Visual editor or the HTML editor?

I see, sorry for the confusion. This blog username represents several blogs.

I'm posting to the visual editor.

You can check out the bottom of this link to see how it is turning up once published as [Digg]
    http://preparednesspro.wordpress.com/2009/05/13/stop-don%e2%80%99t-throw-that-away/

  24. The alt text on that suggests that you haven't entered the actual DIGG URL, but rather the post URL. You must submit the post to Digg yourself, then take the URL of that post on Digg and add it in the [digg=URL] code.

Thanks for the correction. I have adjusted it to be [digg=http://digg.com/d1r9cs] but it is showing the same message on the blog. This is what I found yesterday as well with a separate blog post that I'd submitted to Digg.

  26. That's not a correct Digg URL either. What is the actual URL of the page on Digg where the post is?

OK, so as an update, I have altered the blog post to contain [digg=http://digg.com/environment/Stop_Don_t_Throw_That_Away]. Unfortuantely, the response is the same. When I publish, it still says [Digg] with instructions to enter the Digg URL into the post.

Where is this Digg URL supposed to be?

  29. Yes, that is the URL. I always copy it from the browser bar directly.

Have you tried using [digg http://digg.com/environment/Stop_Don_t_Throw_That_Away%5D instead? Sometimes the equals sign makes a difference. Also, try deleting it and adding it in the HTML editor; the sensitivity to that is theme-dependent.

Just tried your suggestion to go [digg http://digg.com/food_drink/Food_is_the_Best_Investment%5D but that didn't work either.

SUCCESS!!! Trying it in the HTML reader was exactly what the doctor ordered! Thank you!!!
