I'm new here and I can't understand how to insert a picture correctly. It shows a very small thumbnail in the post and when I increase its size or make it 'large' or 'full size' it gets distorted. I can't understand whats wrong. Can someone please help? The image size is around 750 Kb btw.

By default, the "large" image size is not defined. Go to settings > media and define an image size to use for "full-sized." Full-sized BTW is not actual full-sized, but the maximum displayed image width for the theme that you are using. As far as image quality foes if you optimize and presize all images to "fit" prior to uploading them then the copper does not come into play and the image quality is not lost through scrunching or stretching them to fit.
