DNS needs to be updated?

    Hello, all,

I have a domain mapped to wordpress.com and it says DNS needs to be updated.

I accidentally exited out of my tab in the middle of registering my site, http://www.centrendurance.com, and apparently I screwed something up. I reopened the page and tried to create the same blog but it now gave me the message "that URL is already taken" (by me). So I decided to map the domain name, http://www.centrendurance.com, to my site. Having done this successfully, I tried to open the site but I got a Google Chrome 404 error code, saying the URL wasn't found on this server. I looked at "My Upgrades" and it says DNS needs updating. So after being sent round the loop of troubleshooting I called GoDaddy customer service, which I am assuming is my site's registrar, and they said that WordPress.com needed to do it. I later created a free .wordpress.com blog and tried to map the domain to that site to see if it would fix the problem but it didn't.

    Currently, my nameservers are:

    NS35.DOMAINCONTROL.COM
    NS36.DOMAINCONTROL.COM

Apparently I need to delete all existing nameservers with the DNS tools provided by my domain registrar, so that the nameservers are as follows:

    NS1.WORDPRESS.COM
    NS2.WORDPRESS.COM
    NS3.WORDPRESS.COM

However, when I go onto my GoDaddy account it doesn't show that I own the domain? I tried altering the DNS using off-site DNS manager, but that's "pending". I'm very confused... how can I change my DNS so that my site doesn't show an error message? If I can't, can any of the staff members here do it?

    Thank you. :)

The blog I need help with is centrendurance.com.

  2. centrendurance.com, - seems to be registered with Godaddy and the name servers pointing to Godaddy

Exactly what are you attempting to do? You mention opening an account here and then trying to map a domain name to the blog here - that implies that you might be trying to set up a WordPress.ORG install on Godaddy - if so you need to work with your Godaddy log-in and the famous "One Button Install"

If you are trying to map your domain name centrendurance.com, to a blog here - then you needed to have the blog before you can map a custom domain name to a blog here.

If you want to map a domain name to a blog here then you don't register a domain name again here - you just do domain mapping.

I have also flagged this for the staff to help

Thanks, auxclass, I'll try WordPress.org. But if the domain name is already registered at WordPress.com can I still use it on WordPress.org? Sorry if this doesn't make sense... I'm not a computer techie. ;)

  4. But if the domain name is already registered at WordPress.com can I still use it on WordPress.org?

You don't seem to be registered here - but the Registrar does not matter - you should be able to change the name servers to point to the proper host -

Note also that WordPress.ORG does not host any blogs - they are the keepers of the WordPress software & provide support for WordPress.ORG installs

There are two types of "WordPress" see below

    @auxclass is correct.

At present, centrendurance.com is registered with Go Daddy and is pointing towards a self-hosted WordPress.org installation.

If you are the owner of this domain and want to have it point towards your WordPress.com site, you will need to change its name servers.

Please go to Go Daddy's site and log into the control panel. You will need to update the name servers as below:

    NS1.WORDPRESS.COM NS2.WORDPRESS.COM NS3.WORDPRESS.COM

For more information, please visit the help documentation provided by Go Daddy and our support page:

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/map-existing-domain/

If you are not the owner of centrendurance.com, you could try adding the following similar domains to your WordPress.com site:

    • CentREndurance.net
    • CentsREndurance.com
    • MyCentREndurance.com

    https://centrendurance1.wordpress.com/wp-admin/paid-upgrades.php?page=domains

If you have any more questions concerning WordPress.com, please let me know, and I'd be happy to assist you.
