Do certain themes affect comments?

  1. Hi there,

I am very new to the blogging world, and took on a project where my school newspaper is all on wordpress. Everything is going wonderfully...except this.

My principal is not allowing us to do ANY commenting. So under discussion settings, I disabled comments.

The blog is actually a network of 8 different blogs, each on different topics. Different kids are "editors" of each section.

I let them choose their themes. The "Chunk" theme disabled comments with no problem.

EVERY OTHER THEME is not disabling comments! I even made it so that the comments have to be approved by an admin (me) first, so I could just never allow comments, but I am testing it out and comments appear right there as soon as they are typed!

Can anyone help me with this? I don't want to take away the creativity/choice from these kids, but if I have to make them all "chunk" I will!

Thank you in advance for your help! I truly appreciate any kind of advice here. Thanks so much!

The blog I need help with is lopschool.wordpress.com.

  2. It looks like you have several separate blogs - each blog has it's own dashboard and "Disable comments" section - you could probably consolidate things into one single blog and use Categories to sort and arrange your content - less to worry about - also your visitors would only have one blog to visit - much easier for them

Back to the other question - you need to go to each blog to disable the comments - not also that anyone with "Editor" rights can enable the comments and over ride the main blog settings - I don't know how far down the list the ability to enable comments goes.

  3. Thanks for the advice.

I already went into each separate blog to disable comments. I did the exact same thing on each blog's settings, which is why it's so frustrating that comments are still being allowed!

I know that you can only disable "new" comments. But it isn't making a difference- these comments have been disabled since I created the blogs.

I like the format of each group of kids doing a different blog and making them all linked. I'd rather not go and rewrite/copy/paste all text and pictures, if I don't have to.

Any other suggestions? Could it be a glitch in wordpress?

  4. Enabling/disabling comments isn't theme dependent.
    Two things to note:
    a) Changes you make in Settings>Discussion will only apply to posts created after you make the change. For already published posts you need to make changes in the Discussion module of the post editor.
    b) You need to disable both comments and pings.
