Do I want to switch to WordPress.org?

  1. I advise a high school journalism program that uses WordPress.com for our site. I've used WordPress.com personally for years, but I am by no means a computer expert--I don't know how to code and I don't have the time to learn it. My students only know what I show them. But, WordPress.com doesn't offer the flexibility I want for the newspaper site. Specifically, I want to have various pages and be able to have students post to those pages--with tags and such--instead of only being able to post on the home page. Is WordPress.org much more difficult than WordPress.com? Should I try to transfer my current blog or start new? Is the Guided Transfer option worth it?

The blog I need help with is theschssource.wordpress.com.

  2. It's not THAT much more difficult. Basically it's important that you stay on top of updates, and sign in at least weekly to check your security and plugins.

Guided transfer is not worth it in my opinion. I've done it, and it's not hard. Just make sure EVERYTHING has come across before you delete or set the old blog to private. Everything including images.

  3. Thanks! I will try the workaround until I make my decision!
