IMO the concept of "free choice" is based on the erroneous notion that all people are the same, are born into the same kinds of families and social-economic conditions, have equal access to education, experience identical events in their lives, etc. I'm sure that's enough for you to see what I am pointing to. Our freedom of choice is constrained by many factors.

We can discuss specific posts being promoted here in the Showcase Forum threads promoting them but do be aware that entering into lengthy discussion here but those who post comments into these promotional threads do not always click into the blog post being promoted and making great comments on the post.
We can also post Discussion threads into the Off-Topic forum but take note that posting threads that are is presence or in fact duplicates to both forums will result in one of the threads being closed or deleted. That behavior is considered to be excessive promotion just as posting duplicates in the Showcase Forum would be excessive promotion. http://en.forums.wordpress.com/forum/off-topic
IMO it would be super cool if WordPress.com were able to redesign this Showcase Forum so all we could do is post a brief promo of our post and a link, and there was no capacity to comment on our threads. That way those who were interested in discussion would click into the posts and commenting could take place on our blogs where it counts rather than here.
