Does self-hosting provide the following

  1. Hi bloggers:

I have two main blogs I'm working on that are on WordPress.COM. I want to buy a self-hosted plan from Godaddy.com. I also have a domain purchased from Godaddy that will go to one of the blogs.

Once I self-host my blog will the following happen:

  2. Will ads that WordPress.com posts on our free blogs be removed once I have self-hosting?
  3. Will mapping of my new domain that I have automatically happen once I set up the self-hosted plan with Godaddy?

  4. Will I have more space than the 3gb already offered with WordPress.com
  5. Am I able to custom design or use the premuim themes at no extra costs?

  6. Will I be able to post my own ads with self-hosted plans.
  7. Am I able to put more than one blog on one self-hosted plan, or do I need a seperate plans for each blog.

  8. Am able to use the VideoPress option with a self-hosted plan at no extra cost?

Any answers to the above is appreciated.

  • Most of those questions don't really apply. When you're self-hosted using software from wp.org, you're subject to the terms and limitations of your web hosting service.

  • No, you won't have ads inserted by wp.com since you won't be on the wp.com platform.

  • For your other questions, you should really be over here:

    http://wordpress.org/support/

  • For more on the differences, see: http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

And I have NO idea why this thread is so mis-aligned.

  • The thread was reposted right after the first one for clarification. Please ignore the first one.

I read the difference between .com and .org, however, it does not provide the questions I have.

Support does not have answeres to the specific questions I have, unless you're more aware of where to go exactly then please provide a link.

    Thank you.

  • -Will ads that WordPress.com posts on our free blogs be removed once I have self-hosting?
yes, but other ads might be put on instead, depending on the terms of your hosting

-Will mapping of my new domain that I have automatically happen once I set up the self-hosted plan with Godaddy?
no, you have to do it yourself

-Will I have more space than the 3gb already offered with WordPress.com
again, depends on the terms of your hosting agreement.

-Am I able to custom design or use the premuim themes at no extra costs?
yes to the first, no to the second. There are thousands of themes for Wp.org blogs, some free and some expensive. The premium themes here at WP.com are not available for WordPress.org.

-Will I be able to post my own ads with self-hosted plans.
again, depends on the hosting agreement. some places say sure, some say no.

-Am I able to put more than one blog on one self-hosted plan, or do I need a seperate plans for each blog.
again, depends on your hosting agreement. Probably you need to buy hosting separately for each blog.

-Am able to use the VideoPress option with a self-hosted plan at no extra cost?
No. Videopress is a WordPress.com thing.

It's the same thread. You posted twice into it.

I read the difference between .com and .org, however, it does not provide the questions I have.

It does if you read it right.

-Am I able to put more than one blog on one self-hosted plan, or do I need a seperate plans for each blog.

Most will let you have multiple sub-domains or folders, but may not let you have multiple databases.

But again, these really aren't questions for the .com support board.
