does spam free comments go straight to pending?

  1. I selected all comments must be approved. Will spam free comments go straight to pending box?

Or based on my selection will all messages go first to spam to wait my approval?

The blog I need help with is senior1938voice.wordpress.com.

  2. The comments approved by Akismet to be spam free go to your pending box. ( Note: Some comments you think them to be spam free can go to spam box if Akismet think them to be spam.)

I'm just adding to what hnsaifi has said.

You are wise to set your blog up so you moderate comments.

On the spam that Akismet catches it takes only seconds to click "empty spam" and you don't even have to click "empty spam" if you don't want to. Akismet will maintain comments it has caught for 15 days from the time they were received, and then it will delete the comment automatically.

If you get spam that slips by Akismet then mark it as spam (do not delete it) and over time Akismet will learn it's spam.

Note: The worst of all spam containing malware and viruses is not sent to us. It's removed as it could bring down many blogs if opened.

There is no such thing as eliminating all spam but Akismet works very well. For more information please take the time to read "5 things every blogger should know about spam" on this page Akismet: How it works http://akismet.com/how/

  4. You mention new bloggers getting in trouble with spam comments. If this is so, why not have a introduction to new comers and include what they need to know about spam, innocent appearing or not. This would have benefited me.

When I saw 2 or more links in a comment, I was suspicious and they were obivious as you state. When comments were not to post theme, I was suspicious. But I asked myself, how can all comments be going to spam and none that I remeber to well to 'pending'. So, I never let comment with strings of links by, but comment without links I freed from spam.

I am now of the mind to go back over comments I allowed to be posted, those not relating to the subject and delete them. The reason for my thinking, I want honest dialogue with readers. Am I on the right path.

I left unchecked do not remove comment thought to be spam after 30 days. Thanks for all the reference materials-- I've read most of it already and will be readidng more. I think new WP bloggers should be guided immediately to the spam information...

Yes, this is the right way.

    Yes!

  7. "Yes"! Not really a bitter pill to swollow, just a learning event. I hope you will consider what I said about informing new WP bloggers. Maybe I missed the information when I first came to WP. Thanks to both of you for your support-- I have a feeling of confidence because of Suport & Forum, and rapid responses.

  8. It is mentioned in the glossary http://learn.wordpress.com/glossary/ included in the tutorial that's linked to on every Admin page where the word "spam" is linked to http://en.support.wordpress.com/unwanted-comments/ But I'll tag highish thread so Staff sees your suggestion.
