If I transferred my blog to another host, does the template I have been using
also get transferred as well as the files?
If the name on my blog is http://themedgardening.wordpress.com
with the blog name of Gothic and Victorian Gardening and I now have a registered domain
http://GothicandVictorianGardening.com, if I transfer the domain to wordpress.com
does that take the place of the original wordpress.com domain that I had?

The template does not move out of wordpress.com if you do.
But it would be relatively easy to recreate and of course there are many other themes out there to choose from.
Could you please let me know about the domain change?

You can map http://themedgardening.wordpress.com/ to http://gothicandvictoriangardening.com,/
So when people go to your blog, they see the domain.
