How do I map my domain and install a custom theme via FTP?

  1. I own matthewnigel.com, and want to have a wordpress blog mapped to there. I paid the 12 to do so, and now when I try to set it up, it goes to thelifeofmatthew.com, which I deleted, yet it's still showing up. Also, I don't know how to install a custom theme that I purchased through FTP. I'm hosting with BluDomain and my domain was purchased through GoDaddy.com. Any help would be appreciated.

  2. You will need to update your nameservers through your Godaddy account to the following so that they point to your WordPress.com blog:

    NS1.WORDPRESS.COM
    NS2.WORDPRESS.COM
    NS3.WORDPRESS.COM

Godaddy has some great support documentation for this at http://help.godaddy.com/article/664#reghere .

Themes can't be uploaded to WordPress.com. WordPress.com is a hosted service and you do not have FTP access. That's a feature of self-hosted blogs through WordPress.org. For more information please see:

You may use any of the available themes we have at http://themes.wordpress.com . If you are CSS-savvy, you may want to look into purchasing the Custom Design Upgrade to customize one of the themes we offer: http://support.wordpress.com/custom-design/

If you require a custom theme, you might be interested in a self-hosted (WordPress.org) installation. There are no restrictions if you setup a self-hosted WordPress.org blog instead of a WordPress.com blog, but there are some added responsibilities.

We have hosting recommendations at the following link if you are interested:

We also offer a Guided Transfer upgrade - we'll move everything over for you and get you all setup with your self-hosted WordPress.org installation. For more details, please see http://en.support.wordpress.com/guided-transfer/ .
