domain mapping, domain is available but wordpress is taken

  1. I want to register a domain, such as example.com. No problem.

I want to map it to wordpress, but there is already a blog by the name example.wordpress.com.

How would that work? If I pay for and register example.com, could I still map it to wordpress, even though there is an example.wordpress.com?

  2. You did not specify a blog address or reason for posting when you created this topic.

This support forum is for blogs hosted at WordPress.com. If your question is about a self-hosted WordPress blog then you'll find help at the WordPress.org forums.

If you don't understand the difference between WordPress.com and WordPress.org, you may find this information helpful.

If you forgot to include a link to your blog, you can reply and include it below. It'll help people to answer your question.

    This is an automated message.

  3. No worries; this question is for wordpress.com. I didn't specify a blog address because I need some input before I sign up for a(nother) new blog. I hope someone has the answer so I can get'er done.
    Thanks.

  4. Hi,
I believe we were typing at the same time. See above.

  5. If I pay for and register example.com, could I still map it to wordpress, even though there is an example.wordpress.com?

    Yes

    See above for the instructions

    good morning to you :)

  7. Morning Morning @TT

  8. I took y'all at your word and gave it a go! Went like a breeze. I thought I'd post here how wordpress handled it in case someone else comes up with this question. Knowing (example).wordpress.com was taken by someone else, I didn't know how they'd handle it. I registered a new domain (example).com. When I mapped it to wordpress, instead of giving me (example).wordpress.com, they made it (exampledotcom).wordpress.com. An easy way around it, but I couldn't find any documentation on it ahead of time.

Thanks for the encouragement. I actually did it right away; just get back to the forum now.
