domain name is reserved, but not in use. Can it be released?

  1. hateraide.wordpress.com is reserved, but not in use. Can you check to see if this account is is in use or was registered by mistake? Is there a way to release that name?

The blog I need help with is www.joshbjones.com.

  2. Is there a way to release that name?

No. When we register a username account the matching blog is reserved for our future use. It cannot be obtained by anyone other than the person who has registered the matching username account.

You can register another blog with a similar name. http://en.support.wordpress.com/register-a-blog/

Or you can register a domain via a domain mapping upgrade and it will not matter what the underlying .wordpress.com address is.

  3. Is there a way to find the user and see if they plan on using that username, or request that they release it?

  4. No there is not and Staff will not violate the privacy policy and provide the email address to you.

  5. As I said above you can register a domain via a domain mapping upgrade and it will not matter what the underlying .wordpress.com address is.

  6. Yeah, I can go with wordpress.org like I do for other blogs I have, since I own a hosting company. I was trying to setup a wordpress.com domain first to gain some traction before I moved it to self-host on my server. Guess I'll just jump straight over though. Thanks for responding. I appreciate it.

  7. You're welcome and best wishes.
